  • Claying

    Dear Group,

I was claying my wife’s car today and a few times the clay would come to an abrupt stop. Most of the time the clay would glide across the surface, but sometimes it would stop suddenly. When this happened, there would be a whitish color to the paint. It would wipe right off. Is this some of the clay sticking to the surface, or is it old wax coming up? I'm not rubbing that hard at all.

    Thanks

When your clay bar stops suddenly, it means that you have not lubricated the area with Quik Detailer properly. Make sure that each area you attempt to clay is sprayed with QD, and these glitches will cease.

Correct, and to further answer your question you were seeing some of the clay smudging on the paint. The key to claying is to keep the surface well lubricated. Often times people think that if you have too much lube that the clay won't be able to work properly, but in fact it is often the opposite that is the case.

Claying works best for me with proper lubrication and ample downward pressure.

If I am claying an entire vehicle its not uncommon for me to use an entire (or close to) 16oz bottle of detailer. Follow whats mentioned above and you will be good!

Yeah, pick up an extra bottle of QD.

So when it comes to claying, the more QD, the better. I guess you can never use too much QD when claying.

            Thanks

Or buy a gallon of Last Touch and dilute it to 50/50. I use this stuff all the time and it rocks for a clay lube and polish removing agent.

Keep the surface lubed and use a lot. Then you should not have any problems.

X100 on the other advice. It is definately a case of not enough QD or lube of your choice. And yes it is the clay sticking to the paint.
