Ready to buy G100a..what else?

I am getting ready to order a G-100a and wonder what else I should buy? I have a 2001 black corvette convertible with a lot of cobwebbing and a few swirl marks and light scratches. My current arsenal includes:

NXT Tech wax
ScratchX
#9 Swirl Remover
Aloe cleaner
Aloe conditioner
All wheel cleaner
Endurance
303
Waffle weave towels
PakShak microfibers

So, what should i buy in addition to the G100 so i don't have to pay shipping? DACP and some pads? Which pads and how many?

I've really enjoyed lurking on this site and have had a lot of fun playing with ScratchX and NXT, but it really bothers me when I park under some lights or see my trunk in the bright sunlight.

Also, did one seat yesterday with the cleaner and conditioner and couldn't believe the dirt that came out of the black seats!

I would suggest the follwoings for your black color vette:

1. #83

2. #82

3. #81

4. Color X

5. NXT Spray Protectant

6. NXT booster wax

7. W-8006 pads (3 at least)

8. W-9006 pads (4 at least)

9. NXT metal Polsh

10. micro fibre bonnet (3 at least and optional)

11. #26 Tech Wax (optional)

These are all the "I would like to have" if I ordered a PC from Meguiar's with free shipping.

Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

C32 AMG listed a pretty good selection of other Meguiar's product to have on hand that will enable you to go after a wide variety of paint defects. You might also consider Meguiar's M-80 Speed Glaze. This is a rich cleaner/polish that works really well with the PC. I have used this often on clear coated cars with excellent results. Also, for washing your car, Meguiar's sells a handy little product called the Grit Guard Insert



This helps to prevent any dirt particles you have removed from your car while washing it from being re-introduced to the finish by trapping them at the bottom of your wash bucket.

OK, thanks Mike and 32 AMG. By reading the forum I know you start with the least aggressive, so would I use the #9, or the #82 first and move up to #83 if that didn't work? If I end up using #83, do I follow with #82. What would be a good 3 step if I have to use #83

Using the least aggressive product first is the correct method. Try your first choice of product in a test section and after working that section really well, wipe it off and insect closely to see if it's getting the job done. If not, then substitute a more aggressive product. If you have to use the #83 over the entire car, then you should follow that with a secondary polishing before going to the protection step.

Why don't you post some pictures (close shot) of your car and let the others to comment or suggest. This would be the most effective method and it save your time by guessing.

Here's what the Grit Guard looks like in a 5-gallon bucket,



It's about 3 inches thick. The grill lets dirt particles fall to the bottom where the vanes prevent dirt particles from swirling back up into the upper water when you dip you mitt into the bucket and swoosh it around.

Very good investment. Here at Meguiar's we can show you how to remove swirls and scratches, but more important is to learn how to prevent them in the first place. A first good step is to use a Grit Guard in your wash bucket.

The two bucket method is also an excellent method which helps to prevent swirls and scratches, we teach this at every Saturday Clinic.

Your paint is in pretty good shape, using the G-100 and a cleaner/polish will definitely take your results to a higher level.

Nice work of removing swirls

Would you mind sharing the techniques of "how-to" remove the swirls?

Did you use "circular" or "back & forth" motion to remove the swirls?

How many applications of "Scratch X" did you apply?

Did you rub it hard or gentle on the paint while you were using the Scratch X?

Did you use a terry cloth or foam pad?

I actually only used the ScratchX on a few minor scratches and followed up with #9 in those areas, then applied TechWax. So I'm pretty sure I only filled the swirls.

I used a foam pad and a back and forth motion going both with the scratch and against the scratch until I was satisfied with the results. This took 2 and sometimes 3 applications. Then I applied #9 in an area a little larger than the ScratchX area, finishing off with the TehWax. I can get the car looking pretty good unless it is in direct sunlight or under the parking lot lights at my local watering hole So it is time to step up and clean up the paint rather than hiding the imperfections. I will be ordering the 80's you suggested, pads and bonnets and give it a go.
