  • Which Wax? Gold Class or NXT?

I have a white 08 Envoy a 98 Dodge Ram 1500 truck also white and a 08 Harley Ultra Classic 105th anniversary edition, it is copper and black.
I was in the store today and could not decide between the NXT and the Gold Class so I got neither for now. In your opinion which would produce the best results for theese vehicles? Would something else be better? Consumer products is all I am able to get here.

Envoy never detailed but coming soon.
    Dodge needs detailing.
Harley has been done 2 times using Harley's products but Meguiars would most likely be better.

    Thanks

I'll let others chime in on which wax they use and why, as to your Envoy, and Ram Truck, be sure to check and see if the paint needs to be clayed after washing and drying.

Were you planning to do a full detail, or just a wax?

I would go with Wash, Clay, and then a coat of ColorX and a coat of Nxt 2.0 if you had planned to keep it quick and simple.

I've used NXT 2.0 and Gold Class on my white Prius and Ivory pearl Infiniti G35. I think the NXT "reflects" a little more.

It is (past) time to do a full detail on the Envoy and the Dodge and coming up on time for the Harley before winter. I don't mind spending the time it takes to do the job right. Plus it gets me out of the house and nobody bothers me when I am working on any of the 3.

Do you use them together and if what order?

Havent used them at hte same time. I used Gold Class before I bought NXT. Gold Class seems to last a little longer but NXT shines more. I think this weekend I'll wash it, clay the hood, and do a half and half test and post the results.

If it makes a difference, I prefer paste waxes and do all of it by hand only.
Nothing against machine polishers, I just prefer to do it by hand. ( I even do our helmets when the bike is done. )

Also, these products will be used on thr bike. ( copper & black )

I think NXT 2.0 is flat amazing on black vehicles. Then again, Gold Class looks great too...but the NXT should last a little longer.

Honestly, it is truly just up to personal preference. Maybe grab a tin of each and play around and see what you like best.

This collection will tackle all three of your detailing projects...

Wash the vehicles: NXT Car Wash
Clay the paint: Smooth Surface Clay Kit
Clean the paint: Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner or ColorX
Protect the paint: NXT Tech Wax Paste

Be sure to have a half dozen clean foam wax applicator pads and a pile of clean, soft microfiber polishing cloths.

                    p.s.

I just checked the above links and it looks like there may be some work going on behind the scenes at www.meguiarsdirect.com as the links are not working correctly, at least at the time of this post. I'll bookmark this thread and check again tomorrow.

I agree with the general concensus of most posters: you can't go wrong with either choice. Gold Class gives a deeper, richer reflection on dark paint while NXT seems to give more "pop" to lighter colors. Since your vehicles are white, I suggest NXT Gen.

Sounds like NXT for the whte vehicles and Gold Class for the bike.

                        Thanks all.

Sure, try both, see how you like them.

Re: Which Wax? Gold Class or NXT?

Hiya, At the Meguiars UK Forum they teach us that (in theory) Gold Class is for lighter colours and NXT is for Darker colour vehicles.

Quote - Dom Berry (MEGS UK ADMINISTRATOR)
The theory behind it is that the NXT 2.0 is fully synthetic and as a result will produce a better finish on darker coloured cars. The Gold Class is semi synthetic and is generally out performed by the NXT in terms of finish and depth of shine, which is why we recommend it for light colours.

The reason for this is fairly simple, the darker paints can offer a greater depth of reflection and shine once polished and Waxed. Most of you guys here know it can be difficult to get a real deep shine/wet look on light paint e.g. Silver, white etc...

I like the idea of using both. I would go with the nxt on the white and gold class on the bike. Have fun this weekend. Keep us posted on how you did.
