  • New to Meguiars not to detailing

Okay....I have been a professional detailer to sales to management to now not doing anything in the business other than wanting to keep my cars looking new. Other than glazes, which as we all know are not a good "driver" car protectant, I haven't found ANYTHING that works well and leaves the car just BLACK and Clear.

I am looking for a wax that is easy to use and works especially well on black (dark) cars.

    Suggestions??

    Weclome!

A glaze does not offer protection. That said, NTX Tech Wax 2.0 is what you need.

Just to note, our "glazes" are body shop safe, that is they are formulated to be used on fresh paint.

There is not a single paint manufacture today that recommends applying any kind of wax or paint sealant onto their paint systems until after 30 days of curing.

Also, it's a known rule that you don't take waxes and paint sealants into body shop or fresh paint environments because they can cause refinishing problems when painting cars.

Thus there is no wax or any other protection ingredient in any of our glazes in our Professional Line specifically nor any wax or protection ingredients in any of our, Pure Polishes or Cleaner/Polishes overall.

Another way of saying this is to say that there are no ingredients in these product that were ever intended to last a long time. That's not their job. We do this on purpose, not because we don't know how.

As one of the oldest manufactures of products to the body shop industry where the people in this industry are working on fresh paint, we have the expertise to know how to make non-wax, non-silicone products for fresh paint. As a polish manufacture we also know how to make waxes and paint sealants to protect the paint for use after paint has dried and cured. (Consumer Market)

So you're correct in that our glazes don't last... they're not supposed to, that's not their purpose.

Please keep in mind Meguiar's isn't like most other wax companies as we manufacture products for both the re-finishing industry and the consumer market. These to markets have very different needs and a lot of times people new to detailing can easily get confused when they see we offer products for people that work on fresh paint and also make a product line for enthusiasts that are primarily working on cured paint.

Check out this thread, it will help to explain pure polishes and cleaner/polishes...

Re: New to Meguiars not to detailing

I think you read my post the wrong way...I wasn't in any way saying that Meguiar's made an inferior glaze.....I know after having been a professional detailer that glazes are not meant for protection but for enhancing the look of the painted surface in the many varieties they come in for different levels of paint defects. That said....my point was that I have had terrible luck with waxes.....meant for protecting the cured paint finish on my and customers cars....on dark colors as every wax product i have tried has left a film that wont come off and looks bad in the sun (i am talking about a film and not swirl marks as I do remove all of those before finish waxing). Glazes I use do not leave this look but obviously.....I am looking for a good wax product.

I have used megs glazes with great result so my privious post was not meant as a knock on megs products....

With all of that out of the way I am still looking for a good wax that makes black look wet, clear, and NO residue or anything that can be seen in the sun.
        Thanks

Re: New to Meguiars not to detailing

I personally find that NXT 2.0 (I use the professional variation safe for rotaries, known as M21 2.0) is my go-to product for all black cars that I am doing a full correction on first. The final product is so completely out-of-this-world amazing that I can't bring myself to use anything else!

The key to NXT 2.0/M21 2.0 is to make sure you apply it per the directions, use a swipe test, and make sure it was applied THIN and removed with proper, clean towels.

A few users on occasion have noticed an oily appearance, but it goes away in a very short time in the sun. Again, this is rare and not the norm (I've noticed it only once, and it was due to my own user error).

            Here's a few pictures of M21 2.0 in action:

                    Besides NXT and M21

M26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax is very popular for a deep, wet shine.

Re: New to Meguiars not to detailing

Well I just purchased an 09 Explorer that is a deep red and I washed it and went to apply the nxt gen tech wax (which is the only recommended product i could buy at the local parts house)....I noticed the pain was ROUGH ROUGH ROUGH>......I clayed the whole truck and man you shoulda seen the clay after I was done....TONS of rail dust. After a quick wipedown I applied and then removed the tech wax....which was easier than I thought it would be and WOW.....what a difference. I have never used any megs waxes in the past but this tech wax was GREAT for the dark color red I used it on. Thanks for the recommendations and I will post some pics tomorrow.
