  • Questions......

I have tried searching but can't find the answers to several issues that I hope you folks can help me with.

My best friend just gave me his 1997 Honda Accord with 75k on the odometer that he bought when it had 12k showing. It was kept in a garage and I think it is in great shape.....but perhaps not by the standards here.

The first owner had a deflector.....or whatever it is called....in front of the sunroof. My friend removed it but now I can see where it was installed. How do I remove the 'stain' left behind. Sorry, but I don't have a camera so I can't post any pictures.

Next, how do I take care of the door seals? They are fine but I just want to keep them in good shape.

Lastly....for the time being.....what product do I use to keep the air dam the dark black it was when new?

See....I already have another question.....where does one find 'clay' in Columbia SC? I forgot today and will make some calls tomorrow at lunch but thought someone might know of a store that keeps it in stock.

    Thanks,

    Re: Questions......

My first approach would be a cleaner wax for the roof stain. You should be able to find the Meguiar's Deep Crystal 3 step system at just about any auto store and use that cleaner wax.

If that doesn't work, try some ScratchX and don't be afraid to put some passion behind your pad!

As for the door sills, the product that just about everyone here LOVES is Hyper Dressing. You likely won't find that locally, but you can order directly from Meguiar's website or use many other vendors out there. Hopefully someone will chime in with some good vendors

As for the air dam, depending what it is made from the Hyper Dressing may also be a good product for that as well. If not, Meguiar's has a Gold Class Trim Detailer that could do the trick.

As for clay, just like most of the consumer line products by Meguiar's you should be able to find it at part stores such as Auto Zone, Checkers, Pep Boys, etc...and even Wal-Mart and Target.

Hope that was a good start in answering your questions!

        Re: Questions......

Its hard to say if it is actualy a stain, or that it is the original color of the car, and the area around it has faded. Or a bit of both.

Washing, claying, and then using a good paint cleaner like ScratchX that was mentioned would probably be best to try and even out the whole area.

I think my owners manual says to use some kind of silicone spray on mine. Havent tried it yet, but i think I'll pick a bottle up when I am at the dealer next to try it. Other than that, any of the dressings would work well, such as the Gold Class Trim Detailer mentioned above.

Is the air dam one of those black/gray plastics? Again, the dressings mentioned above would be fine.

The Pep Boys around here seem to have the clay kit fairly often, but I order most of my stuff online these days. I like autodetailingsolutions.com, esp if you need to order some other stuff as well.

          Re: Questions......

What you're seeing is probably part stain and part imprint where the defector has impacted the paint.

You may not be able to completely remove the imprint but you can probably improve it to the paint that you can live with it.

Chances are you're going to want to use a paint cleaner like ScratchX or Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner or for some real aggressive cleaning use some M105 and rub-out the effected area till it meets your expectations and then apply some protective wax.

            Re: Questions......

I would try a cleaner on the stain first like DC1 if that does not work I would get some M105, the local PBE shope here sells it or you can get it on the net.
As for where to get clay, auto parts stores sell them and Walmart sells the Meguiars smooth kit for $15
