  • Simple Questions..........

I had no idea that there was a BB like this and so many car buffs. And I had no idea there was sooo much to taking care of a car's finish. Guess I forgot how much my first car meant to me some forty years ago.

I have just been.....given..... a 1997 Honda Accord with 75k miles on it by my best friend and think it is in pretty good shape, but perhaps not by the standards here. It replaces my 1986 Accord with 245k miles on it. My friend kept the car in garage but I don't have one.

My question is.....do I have to polish every time I wax the car or just every few wax jobs. Yes I have done a bit of searching but the answers here are far more in depth than I need.

    Be gentle, I'm new.

    Thanks,

First off, welcome to Meguiar's Online!!

No, you do not have to polish every time you wax, unless you really wanted to. I would polish maybe 1-2 a year, depending on how the finish looks. It's really up to you how often you want to polish, if the paint looks like it could use a little more depth and gloss, go ahead and polish it.

Note Meguiar's always states that polishing is an optional step, that is you don't have to do it. It's a personal preference. On older paints it will tend to make the paint look better by restoring clarity and adding gloss.

If you like, you can wash and wax and call it good, you should feel the paint after washing and check for above surface bonded contaminants, these will feel like little bumps on the paint. If you discover these then you'll want to wash, clay and then wax and probably use a cleaner/wax.
