  • New to detailing

    Greetings all,

I'm from South Africa and this is my first post!

Just bought my first stash of Meguiars about two weeks ago, and have been waiting for the rain to clear ever since so that i can get started!!

    Here's what i bought:

    - Gold class shampoo and conditioner
    - Scratch-X
    - Deep Crystal Polish (Step 2)
    - Gold class wax

I aslo bought some foam applicator pads and some microfiber cloths as i'll be doing everything by hand.

This might be a stupid question ... what do i use the pads for and what do i use the microfibers for??

I was under the impression that the pads are used for applying and 'working in' the polish or wax, and the microfiber is used for removing the excess and buffing it up to a shine??

I just read in another thread in this forum, that microfibers have a lot of 'bite' and can cause marring and fine scratches or swirls?

What does it mean if a cloth has bite?

Also, should i not use the microfibres for buffing up the paint during polishing and waxing?

    Im confused??

    Thank you.

You would use the foam pads to apply the product, work it against the paint finish. You can use the microfiber to remove the product. You can also choose the microfiber to apply and work in the product and another clean one to remove. It really depends on what product you are using and what goal you are trying to achieve

Sometimes you have a product and you don't have another more aggressive product / method for you to remove a scratch/swirls/scuff so you basically you choose a more aggressive applicator. Bite means that you can "cut" more. For example sometime people use choose to use ScratchX with a terry cloth towel because they wish to have more bite, or cut. Sometimes if you choose this combo you can end up with mar so you'll need to follow with a less aggressive method/application. In the same example (ScratchX with terry cloth towel) some people tend to follow this combo with ScratchX with a foam applicator to get that clarity and gloss

You can use the microfibers to remove any product.
