  • Swirls and Holograms

I am sure this has been answered here before, but I cant locate it. on this forum i read about swirls, swirl marks and holograms on nearly every thread.

What do these words actually refer to because in some of the threads I can relate to swirl and hologram terms but then i will read another mention of a swirl or hologram and am confused by the meaning in that particular thread???

Any Pics or words of wisdom??

    Re: Swirls and Holograms

Well, swirls and swirl marks tend to be just like mild scratches, and they come from random causes. Things like washing, drying, rubbing up against the paint with your clothes, car washes, etc. They give kind of a cobweb affect in the sun.

Holograms are put into the paint by machine, usualy by somone who isnt trained using a rotary. When you look at it in the sun, you can almost see like a circular, shifting, holographic affect.

Ok. the cobwebs I know as spider webbing.. and i thought swirls were the trails left by the rotary buffer?? I must have had it backwards! Thanks.

          Re: Swirls and Holograms

Swirls tend to just be from day-to-day things... holograms and marring are what machines leave.

But they are all the same thing, that is scratches in the paint.
