  • Is gunmetal gray a high maintenance color?

I have a mirror finish black car and its a pain in the butt to keep clean and avoid swirls and scratches.

People see the car and touch the paint, scratching it with their finger prints!

I was thinking later on down the road, painting my car a gun metal gray (nissan KH2 color).

Anyone have experience with this type of color and is it prone to swirls and holograms?

If so, I may try a lighter color, light blue metallic or something

    Thanks for any feedback.

gray is a low maintainance color.... it even hides dirt pretty well so you dont have to wash it as often.... it hids defects better than bright colors like red or blue....

It is a dark color though so I vote yes, especially if you have the Detailer's eye.

I agree with Tyler. It is a dark color. Things will stand out on it.

The color actually has nothing to do with how easy a paint scratches or how resistant a paint is to scratches as the color is under the clear layer of paint. Sad news is most/all clear coat paints will swirl and scratch easy, so the physics of clear coat paints and swirls and scratches is pretty much going to be the same no matter the color.

Colors like light silver metallic won't show the swirls as easy to your eyes in sunlight so that's an option...
