  • Stupid guy put Mirror Glaze #18 on my Porsche!

Ok, I was going to blame someone else, but I admit it...I did it.

This February I purchased a 1995 Porsche 911, 993. It was clayed and waxed last November, but the car was dirty and looked dull. Most early 1995 Porsches are single stage paint/no clear coat. So, I washed it with Meguires soap and then grabbed the Mirror Glaze #18 and followed the directions (I did not read the part that said it was for plastics only) and put it on my entire car! After about a week I looked closer at the bottle one day and about died right there.

I must say the car looks great! Everyone asks what I use to make it so glossy...I don't tell them because I'm worried that I ruined my paint!!!!

I joined this Forum to learn more about how to make this car look great and protect it, so...let me have it...

Please Help! What do I do now?

P.S. I plan on making this a Concours Car for July of 2009 for the big National Porsche Rally in Colorado, so I'm going to be spending a lot of $$$ and time on the car.

    Thanks!
    Jerry

Thats a pretty expensive way to quick detail.....

Just wash it again, then use some Ultimate Quick Detailer this time.

If you want to do everything by hand, and you're happy with the finish right now, that is there are no swirls in the paint or you're happy with them, the do this...

Get a bottle of #9 Swirl Remover 2.0 and rub all the paint out by hand. This will remove anything you've previously applied and leave the paint clear and rich in color.

You could also use ScratchX or Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner but the #9 will do the job also and is rich in polishing oils which will bring out the full richness of the color of your car's paint.

Now apply two thin coats of wax, use one of these

      Gold Class Wax Liquid
M26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax Liquid
      NXT Tech Wax 2.0 Liquid

My personal choice is NXT as it best masks the very fine swirls that will always be in the paint and will make it incredibly glossy, perfect for show or display but that said all three types work great on paint that is cleaned and polished.

Now if you have swirls in the paint when you look at the sun shining on the paint and you want them gone then you'll have to do a little more work and you'll get better results if you purchase a G110 and learn to machine clean and polish.

        Thanks Mike!
There are no swirls in the paint, but the paint is a little dull compared to the newly painted (3 weeks ago) front bumper that is clear coated.

I will want to purchase a G-100 and learn to use it.

Can I use the #9 Swirl Remover 2.0 with the G-100 or is there a different Meguiar's product I should use with the G-100?

Yes you can use #9 with the G-100/G110.

Just remember, Mike recommended #9 because he's assuming that you paint has no defects at all. #9 is a very mild cleaner that will remove everything that you previously applied.

You can use the #9 by hand or machine, you might need some extra cleaning power to remove the dullness and get the original paint to match the new paint, so instead go with some M80 Speed Glaze.

Hate to abuse these before and after pictures but Speed Glaze did this...

Re: Stupid guy put Mirror Glaze #18 on my Porsche!

Here is a recent photo of my car. It looks pretty good, but there a few small smudges here and there so I think I will start with the #9 and see what happens. I really want to start conservative and go for the "dark, rich, wet look" (I'm probably the only one that has ever said that) and from the descriptions of the products, #9 seem to be the least aggressive and has what I'm looking for. If that does not do the trick, I will go with the #M80 Speed glaze.

I'm going to order the G-110 and the W-8006 pads, the W-9006 pads, the NXT tech wax 2.0, the micro fiber cloths, the Shampoo and Conditioner, and the NXT Speed Detailer.

              Anything else I should have?
