  • Complete n00b to this.

Hey fellas, this will probably sound completely n00bish to you all, but i need to find some help.
Basically i have a black car with quite a few swirls in it. Thanks to the panel shop
Now i use Meguiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner(A3016A) to remove the light swirls i have and it looks absolutely great. Just how i want it. Then i move on to using Meguiars Wet Look Cleaner Wax(A9816). Now on the back of that bottle it says that its a final step and is a 2 in 1 process kinda thing, like Polishes and Protects.
Though after driving in the rain, everything washes off and i can see the same swirls again.
Im starting to think that im meant to get a proper wax of some sort? or am i doing something else wrong?
Basically, i just want to see my hours of work to last at least a month or 2, before ill have to do it all again, not a few days.
    Please help this n00b.

    Cheers fellas

well you need to make sure you doing the paint cleaner followed by the polish which is step 2 and the i would try NXT 2.0 wax with the UQD to top the paint off. Make sure you are doing small sections at a time and with the cleaner and polish make sure you do not let them dry on the paint. Oh, and one other thing put some passion behind the pad do push so hard that your going to damage the paint but, work it well.

Hi and welcome to Meguiar's Online!

You need to make sure that you are working DC1 well, remember if you don't work the paint cleaner well to remove those scratches and swirls chances are that on the long run they will be there.

I know that you are working using DC1 but here are some links that can guide you on how to work well.

I would recommend getting some M105, it will remove scratches and swirls faster and with less effort than ScratchX or DC1, and you don't have to put a lot of passion behind the pad so it'll be easier for your arms

How To Remove Swirls By Hand
How to remove a defect by hand with ScratchX
How To Remove a Bird Dropping Etching by Hand using M105 Ultra Cut Compound

      Hope this helps.

If the swirls are showing up after it rains then this means the swirls were not completely removed in the cleaning step.

This is the most common problem car enthusiasts have with clear coat paints,

        The swirl and scratch easily
Removing the swirls and scratches is very difficult
Even after you remove them they will come back because clear coat paint swirl and scratch easily.

Welcome to clear coat paints, even worse... welcome to black basecoat/clearcoat paints.

If you really want a show car finish, or at least want to remove most of the swirls and scratches then you're going to want to move up to machine cleaning and polishing.

Just spend some time reading this forum or any detailing forum and you'll start to see how popular machine cleaning and polishing have become on the enthusiasts side and the reasons are those listed above and your personal experience and frustration with removing them by hand.

(Remember, we don't make the paints, you can thank car manufactures and paint companies for that)
