  • Improper use of APC

I don't know if it is ADD or just the onset of early Alzheimer's, but I purchased Meg's APC (not APC+) and I used it to detail the engine on my wife's CR-V. I posted a thread about it here http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...ghlight=Engine

Only after I posted the thread did someone point out to me that APC was for interior and APC+ was for the engine (DOH!!!). In any event, I think the engine detail speaks for itself and the APC did an AMAZING job, even if it wasn't meant for the engine.... which brings me to my question/point.

Thereafter, I purchased Simple Green APC to use on the engine of my father's 2003 Lexus IS330. I used the same process I used on my wife's CR-V and both were diluted 10:1. My father's engine was a bit worse to start with, but not terrible either (sorry I have no pics and he's now back home 550 miles away) but the end result was not quite as good.

Point being... IMO, the Meg's APC worked better on cutting engine sludge than the Simple Green did (the SG was okay, just not great). Is there any reason I shouldn't continue using the APC on my engines in the future (if it worked well)?

Here is the description of APC uses on ADS:

Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner is ideal for reconditioning all interior surfaces. The superior foaming action gently lifts the dirt away while its unique blend of fabric softeners and optical brighteners enhance the look and feel of carpet, upholstery, vinyl and even leather.

Clearly, I'm using it improperly, but if it is working, does it matter?

If you think APC worked good on the engine bay, give the Safe Degreaser a try. It works great!
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

I can not remember any warnings about using apc on the engine. It should be fine.

Just a warning about APC (plus, anyway, 'cause that's what I use) NEVER bring it inside the house. My wife was going to clean the (painted) kitchen cabinets this weekend and I made the mistake of doing a test spot with APC+ vs her concoction of cleaners. Mist on, wipe off and the cabinets looked like new.....and I ended up with the job (Tom Sawyer in reverse)

You are perfectly fine and safe using APC on your engine bay, don't give it a second thought.

                    Re: Improper use of APC

I use both APC and APC+ for the same uses... both work well. Now, if I am looking for more foaming action I go for APC less foaming action APC+. Just how I know what one to use, if its correct or not who knows but it works for me!

Sorry man...that was me! I'm no expert, I was just going by the product description on ADS because I was trying to figure out which one to order as I did not want both of them. I wanted a product for engines but the descriptions made it look as though only the APC+ was for engine bays so that is what I went with. I didn't know you could use either one. It sounds like it's working great for you and you've got a good handle on it. I think there are a ton of people on here that use APC for engine bays (and just about everything else). My apologies for getting your Early Alzheimer's worked up. I know how it feels buddy!!
