  • Applying Meguiars to Purchased Dealership Car

A friend bought a really good condition used Honda from a dealership. He would like to apply Meguiars NXT to protect his CR-V. Of course, coming from a dealership, it was just recently detailed to make it look good out the door. But we know that they use the "cheap" stuff and do a really quick job - just enough to get the car looking shiny.

Should we remove the dealership stuff before applying Meguiars? If so, what would be the correct procedure? The paint is pretty smooth, so there would be minimal use of clay to remove whatever contaminants remains.

Clay it. It will pull any contaminants and any wax off of the paint. (Best Option)

    Or

Use a paint cleaner like Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner

    Or

Use a Cleaner Wax first, and then put NXT on top of that.

NXT does do some light cleaning, but overall I'd go with Tyler and say clay it to make sure it's totally clean.

I just bought a vehicle myself, and the "wash and detail" was passable but left a bunch of bonded contaminants to deal with. Luckily if the car's mostly clean, claying's a breeze and shouldn't take you long.

        My favorite quick detail is:

        1. Wash
        2. Clay
        3. Cleaner/Wax - I like ColorX, but the regular Cleaner/Wax would work also.
        4. Wax - Nxt2.0 is getting great reviews.

If you want to make sure you're working on a fresh base, then,

          Wash
          Clay
Clean - Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner or M09 Swirl Remover 2.0 are both excellent light paint cleaners that can be applied by hand

Protect - NXT or your choice of products

I think that claying would be your best option. A friend of mine just bought a new Arcadia. He asked me for advice. I told him to clay. HE gave all the excuses. New car, just prepped from dealer. He did the clay and was amazed at everything he removed from the paint. So yes, Clay it will be worth it.
