First make sure you're using clean mitts and drying products, soft is a must as well. You'll want to work with the cleanest things because you really don't want to touch your paint with something that is contaminated and you would carry and drag all over the paint.
Start rinsing and washing the wheels, wheel wells and tires with a dedicated mitt. Then with your mitt that you have for the paint you would work from the top to the bottom, rinse and continue washing. After you are done dry your car to prevent water spots.
