Basically you want,

Quality car wash
Detailing Clay
Paint Cleaner
Wax


You can get more involved, for example you can add the polishing step after cleaning and before waxing or you can do even less and after washing and claying just move on to a cleaner/wax.

How do you want to approach taking care of your car?

Do you want to do the least amount of steps for a good shine
Do you want to do the most amount of steps for the best shine?

Detailing Clay is a plastic clay with a special type of abrasive that when rubbed over the paint with spray lubricant like Quik Detailer it will remove above surface bonded contaminants.

This could be some kind of paint overspray that landed on the new paint job after it was painted by while it was still at the body shop, it could also be some kind of overspray or industrial fallout/pollution that fell on the car wherever it is normally parked.

Above surface bonded contaminants come from what's in the air where you normally park the car.
