Re: Hazing with NXT Wax
After using a bottle of the original NXT for about a year without problems, I just noticed a problem with hazing this weekend.
I let the wax dry completely so that it passed the swipe test and then waited another 10 minutes (for a total of 50 minutes). The wax removes cleanly, but if I wipe the paint an hour or two later, I get fine-lined, hazy streaks that look greasy. What's weird is that the streaks wipe clean if I swipe with my hand or finger.
Humidity was relatively low at 35% - 40%, and ambient temperature got as high as 86F while I was working.
I read on the forum that NXT 1.0 had problems with hazing, especially near the end of the bottle if not shaken well whenever used. I've got about 1/3 of a bottle left. I'd been shaking for about 1 minute before each waxing job and again for 5-10 seconds every couple of times of reloading the pad. But, maybe that's not enough?
I was planning on getting a bottle of NXT 2.0, but since there still seem to be hazing issues, maybe I'll have to find something else or wait until version 2.1.
I called Meguiar's customer service, and the adviser said that the streaks were not affecting the durability or effectiveness of the wax. He suggested using a quick detailer to remove the streaks. He did agree that it's unusual to get streaks upon wiping a clean surface. When I asked how I could prevent this from happening in the future, he said that although 40% humidity is not very high, maybe see what happens when the humidity is even lower.
BTW, even though the bottle is about a year old, it's been inside, so hasn't been stored in temperatures above 85F or below freezing. Though, I have used it in the garage when the temperature is above 90F or in the 50's.
I hope Meguiars can get this hazing issue resolved before too long.
