Re: Can you use ScratchX with a machine buffer?

What kind of machine buffer are we talking about?

The new ScratchX works with orbitals and DA's, but not rotaries.

A quick way to find out what polisher you have is to look at the action. Does it spin in a circular fashion? If so, it's a rotary.

There are some other threads to help you find out what polisher you have.

Yes as long as your tube says it is meant for use by hand and a DA.
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

          The answer is "Yes"

ScratchX is about as aggressive as our M82 Swirl Free Polish, that is to say it's not very aggressive by machine.

          Meguiar's always teaches,

"Use the least aggressive product to get the job done"

So it's a good idea to start out testing least aggressive products and when working by machine starting out with ScratchX is a perfectly acceptable procedure.

If your paint trends towards the soft spectrum it may work well, if your car's paint trends towards the hard side then it may not do much to remove swirls and scratches and you'll need a more aggressive product. You never know until you actually do a Test Spot you your car's paint system.

So the idea is to test first to a small area and then inspect your results, make sure the product, process you've chosen, (In your case that''s ScratchX with a PC), works to make one small area look good before going over the entire car.

If you can't make one small area look good you're not going to be able to make the entire car look good and you'll be glad you tested in a small area first.

          What are you working on?
What are you trying to accomplish?

I've recently started using ScratchX with my DA and I actually find it does a better job of removing swirls/scratches than #80 on my black Corvette, which has a very hard clear coat. What I like best about using ScratchX instead of #80 is that it's much easier to remove, and it leaves my finish LSP ready too, while #80 tends to need to be followed up with #9 on my black paint, otherwise it is mildly micromarred.
