  • New XJR and FIRST Black Car! Best approach?

I have stepped over to the dark side. Literally. After 35 years and not one Black car I did it, knowing my cleaning routine would have to be reexamined.
SO that being said, Its a 2007 Jaguar XJR Black on Black and I'm looking for the best way to keep it looking great.

I usually go Wash, Clay, Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, then Wax.
Is that the best approach and I was thinking of going to a G110, its a big car to wax, will that be a plus on the black car?

    Thanks!

I think you'll be glad you did regardless of the color.

Best to start by refreshing the basics, making sure you have all the highest quality towels, sponges, cloths, etc, 2 buckets, Grit Guards.

Here are also some links to review:

      Step 1 Wash
      Step 2 Clean
      Step 3 Polish

As far as your current process, it would be fine, but a dark color like black would really benefit from a pure polish after the cleaner like DC#2 or # 7 Show Car Glaze.

I gave up re-typing it a long time ago .... Though I did re-type it at first...

Just seems like unless they go in each thread, people dont see them, and they answer a lot of questions.

I agree Murr. I think its great that you do that for the new members. I would also like to add that regardless of the color of a vehicle. Using a G100/110 to do the work is the way to go. It will make your Jag look great. Good luck.

That routine's been working for hundreds of thousands of people for decades... still a sure-fire way to maintain a car's finish.

There's a very good reason DA Polishers have become very popular in the last 15+ years and one of those reasons is because clear coats are harder to work swirls and scratches out of by hand versus by machine.

If you're looking for show car results and are willing to maintain your car's finish by taking ownership of the washing process or hiring someone that is an expert at washing cars carefully, then machine cleaning and polishing is the way to go.

If you're Jag is a daily driver that will be taken to just any old car wash then might as well stick to your regular routine.

Both approaches will work but maintain a show car finish on a black car is hobby unto itself!

                    Marc,

Your approach is good. You might want to consider adding #7 Show car glaze, applied with an 8006 pad on your new G110. I just got one a few weeks back and it is AMAZING. There is no doubt you'll get down your time and you'll have an ability to fix minor problems with the paint.

Don't forget to post some pics when you have at it.

                    Murr,

The repeat posts are great, I use them often (as refreshers).

Thanks guys for all the replies and input! The Jag is a daily Driver and is garaged every night.... and never sees a car wash from, anyone but me in my driveway!

After reading all the links.. I think the G110 is the best idea and I feel confident in using it properly.

I know there is a store online but is there a "kit" of sorts that has all the pads and waxes in a combo... I'm ready to make the purchase and get to work!

At this time Meguiar's doesn't offer a kit for getting into machine polishing...

We have to be careful we don't step on our distributor's toes...

                        (that's marketing/distribution jargon)

Well, I think the only "kit" would be at autodetailingsolutions.com, but depending on what you want to do/buy/already have, even those kits dont always fit the bill.

A bare bones order for just the polisher from ADS would look like this, not counting other cloths, Grit Guards, etc:

                          - G110 package 1, which I think is the machine and 1 8006 pad.
                          - Case of 6 pads - 1 7006, 2 9006, 3 8006
                          - 6 MF bonnets for removing wax with the 7006 pad
                          - Bottle of #80 Speed Glaze
                          - Wax of your choice if needed, probably Nxt 2.0 or #21 2.0
