  • white spots on ext ----HELP

    first let me say.......excellent site

here's my question, I have a 01 Grand prix with original paint it has swirls and some light scratches but my biggest problem is there is small white spots
all over the ext. If I pick at them with my nail some will come off. I'am
thinking that they are from overspray (paint shop) or possibly concrete dust

If need be I can post some pictures

    Thanks

Just wash with a good product like Nxt or Gold Class, then try the Smooth Surface Clay kit. Buy an extra bottle of Quick Detailer as well.

Try being gentle with the clay first, but it might take a little more pressure/effort, or even a stronger clay, but be mild first.

I just had the exact same problem with my Dark Blue metallic truck. Except the spots on mine were red. I'm sure they came from paint overspray. I did the same steps as suggested above, and it got the red paint dots off. I had to scrub a little harder with the clay in places, but mostly it came off with just an easy clay rub. Use plenty od QD.

As mentioned, get some detailing clay and a spray lubricant and after washing and drying the car clay a small area and see if claying will remove the white spots.

Let's hope these white spots are paint and not concrete as claying concrete could potentially create scratches in the paint as removed particles of concrete get trapped into the clay and then pushed over the finish.

Do you find these white spots on the glass also?

no not on the glass, just the paint and some trim. Last spring I tried the clay and it worked the same, maybe I never applied enough pressure. I will try again and I hope it comes off its been 2years now

When you try again, just try a small section about 8" to 10" square/round or so...

See if by adjusting pressure/technique you make one small area look good.

If you make one small area look good you can make the entire area look good, if you can't make one small area look good then you likely can't make the entire finish look good. (Test Spot)

Use plenty of lube and increase your pressure to this small area but not so much that you're causing damage to the paint from applying "Bubba" strength pressure.
