  • UQD streaking

I have had two instances of UQD streaking. The first I can understand because it was a sunny 90 degree day and I tried to remove dust on a hot hood (2000 Dark Green Corvette). But the second time has me baffled. It was a cool (45 degree day) just starting to mist rain. The Corvette had been running for about 10 minutes, then it sat for 10 minutes before I began misting UQD on the hood. When I began wiping instantly I started seeing dull, goldish colored streaking on the dark green. What is going on here?

I use UQD - in the garage - after every wash without any problem, but if I try to use it as a "mist & wipe" product I end up with a mess. Can someone explain what is happening? I'm about ready to go back to Quik Detailer and
    Final Inspection.

You know, I've had the same problem a few times, I attributed it to having black car. Some things to try, mist it very lightly in that area, remove it imediately and work it in smaller areas. This sounds a little odd, but I had it streak on me before, I pulled my car out into the sunlight where the surface became really hot, pulled it back into the shade and re-wiped and that did the trick. Good luck

        duckvett,

I have not had it streak on me at all. I have used it when my truck was warm not hot. My trick is to use 2 micro fiber towels one for the first wipe when there is most of the product on the paint. After I wipe the area that I misted I go over it with a dry micro fiber to remove any possibility of streaks. When the second towel just gets moist to the touch I switch to a new/dry towel for my second wipe. I go around my f-150 using about 10 towels. this may be over kill but it is not streaking for me.

Not sure how big of an area you're misting and wiping at a time, but anytime you're having a problem with a paint care product one thing you can try is to shrink the size of your area down.

Said it before and I will say it again; towels. I find most often if I experience streaking, it is ALWAYS related to either the surface not being wax and needing a clay/wax while trying to do it in direct sunlight, or the towel fibers are clogged up, not being able to absorb enough product causing streaking.

Change to a new towel and see if you still get streaking.

By chance when you wash your towels are you using a fabric softener? That would be the cause of streaking.

Next time you wash your towels add a quarter cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle. After it does its job, run the rinse cycle again. This may help you out.

This was a fresh clean microfiber and the first spot I sprayed on the car. I changed cloths and tried the same spot again trying to remove the streaking and it only made it worse. The only reason I can think of would be the residual heat of the hood from the engine running. But on a 45 degree day, it seems there would not be enough surface heat to dry the UQD so fast.

I will try the vinegar trick, if that doesn't do it I will use the UQD only after a wash on a cool surface.

Well, I messed up the previous reply. I tried to multi-quote to cover everyone's comments, but I didn't do it right. Then when I tried to edit I didn't get that done in the one minute time frame.

Only time that I have had that problem was at a car show when the surface was pretty warm and I was in a hurry and tried to do too big of area.

Try smaller area and wipe it before it can dry on the surface.
If that don't work then I suspect your towels.

I shake the bottle several times while using just to make sure it is mixed.
I really like the UQD it is an awesome product.

In response to some of the earlier advise -

No fabric softener! All my microfibers are washed separately with mild detergent. I even have different color microfibers for different products, so there is no "cross-contamination". But I will try the vinegar trick.

I only did one spray from the bottle and wiped approximately a 2' x 2' area. One wipe then turn to a dry side, but it had already streaked. I got another clean microfiber, sprayed the same area again and tried to clean up the streaking, but that only made it worse.

Another thought - it was quite windy that day, maybe the wind dried the UQD?

                          Thanks for everyone's help.

                            Is Quik Detailer working okay?

If so, maybe just stick with what's working for you and call our Customer Care department and cite this thread and I'm sure they'll take care of you.

By any chance do you have any bonded contaminants? Does your paint feel a bit rough when you slide your palm of your hand across the paint?
