Im about to detail a car and apparently it had some sort of 'acid' dripped on it in the parking garage. Theres one mark on the deck lid that only looks like a hard water spot and doesnt look like it did much damage to the clear. But down the deck lid and on the rear bumper its much more rough and looks like it did a decent job on the clear coat. I haven't started yet so whats my best way to remove what I can? I told the lady that if the clear was so damage and it ate all the way to the basecoat theres nothing I can do unless I reclear the panels. I was thinking Id try a clay bar on the top where its not so bad, and then try it on the bumper and then move to m109 (? i think 109 i get them all mixed up, any decent grit compound) then maybe to a 2000 grit wet paper if that didnt work....Any other ideas? Maybe a much more simple idea or plan of attack?

Re: removing acid
Well, the acid itself is long gone. All you can do is deal with any etching/staining that is left.
And you would just treat it like any paint damage, use a paint cleaner to remove the etching/swirls, and if you felt comfortable, rotary and then wetsanding as a last resort. Same process as always. What sort of machines are you working with?2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

Re: removing acid
Thats what I thought, it was just hard to tell how damaged it actually is. It looks like a drip on the deck lid and bumper but some spots are worse than others. Im using a rotary, what cleaner should I start with just my regular car wash soap?. Is the Solo system aggressive enough with a aggresive wool pad to do anything because thats whats handy at the moment, Just realized the rest of my pads and compounds are not at home and if I can avoid an hour drive to get it that would be great if not its fine I have to go eventually just tossing the idea out there.
