  • Clear Coat + Dead Paint

Hello all, no doubt my question has been asked before and answered before too but i couldn't find it

    My question to y'all is:

I "think" my car has a clear coat (not sure if it is dyed the cars colour or just clear coat)

The car is a 2000 Honda Civic in Milano Red, its now starting to go pink, what i would like to do is bring back the brilliant red that it once had 8 years ago.

If i attack the car and start to see paint on the pad does that mean that i have removed the clear coat from the top and are now on fresh paint (im guessing this would take quite a lot of effort to get to paint through clear coat)

I want to get rid of the pink, only i don't know if i have to go through clear coat to get rid of the dead paint - or do i just have to get rid of some of the clear coat (if dyed the same colour as the car)

I have asked a similar question elsware in the forum, but this is more dedicated to if i have a clear coat what steps are taken to "get to" the dead paint?

    Kind Regards
    Lee

Re: Clear Coat + Dead Paint

If your car has what we call clear coat failure there is nothing you can do to fix it, undo the damage or slow down the deterioration.

If you're unsure take a look a the two thread below, one has pictures of clear coat failure and one shows you how to test for a single stage or clear coat paint job.

Are you sure though if you have a CC? Sounds a lot like oxidized SS red paint...

BTW, is it red paint coming off onto the pad?
