  • How to polish a powdercoat?

    Hi,

I have a roll bar powdercoated in glossy black. Unfortunately, there are scratches all over the roll bar. The scratches aren't deep at all, if anything more minor scuffing.

What can I do about this? I was going to try to ScratchX it and see if it helps.

    Thanks.

I have never tried it but if you are going to use scratch-X on powder coating it would be my guess that you Will die of old age before you complete the job

You don't say just What your goal is but if it is for a show car I think I would prime and paint then polish and wax..
Their are company's that do a very nice job of powder coating I have see some that is very smooth and shiny just depends on how good you need it.

my goal is a show car later "converted" track car. i.e. track cars just slap some cheap paint on their roll bars; i made the effort to get a glossy powdercoat.

anyways, anyone else got any suggestions?

I personally have not had much luck removing defects out of powder coated components but Kevin Brown has, could be just like automotive paints their is some variety in the types of resin used in the industry meaning some types of powder coating paints may polish better than others. The fact is you won't know until you go out into your garage and give something a try.

Give the ScratchX a try, maybe even a cleaner/wax like ColorX if you have some. You could also try a cleaner/polish like M80 or M83 by machine or hand and see if you have any luck.

If a rotary buffer is in your arsenal, then give it a try with a foam pad a cleaner/polish.

Let us know how it goes so others can learn from your experience.

            Thank you.
