  • Everything is streaking on me!!!

so saturday i get up early to detail my magnum and swap a door handle(swapped the drivers side door handle with the key cylinder for one from a rear door with out a key cylinder)

so anyway i washed the mag up good, and proceeded to clay it using megs smooth surface clay kit..

got done clayng the entire car, and didnt have the time i thought i was going to have, to polish and wax..so i quik detailed the whole car, it was cool and in the shade the whole time i clayed and quik detailed so heat and sun wasnt the issue..

so i used speed detailer and a mf towel, went over the entire car, then went over it again with UQD and another fresh mf towel..

pulled out into the sun, holy crud, streaks that look whitish or milky, over hte whole car..im like ok weird ive never had this happen..

pull it back in the shade, got 2 new mf towels, dampened one and gently wiped the entire car down with it, then used the UQD again on the entire car and with a new mf towel, puled back into the sun and same thing again milky looking white streaks, almost like a smeared wax look..

as mentioned ive never had this problem before even using speed detailer and UQD in the sun..

also the spray head on the UQD was cruddy, uneven mist and leaked as u let the trigger out, had to dump it into another bottle..

any ideas on the streaking issues..first was with old but washed and clean mf towels, (plain tide to wash them, no fabric softner, low heat dried) and then with 2 brand new towels..

    thanks ..

Wow i have not seen that either, did you let the QD or UQD dry on the surface? Did you happen to notice if this was being cause by the QD or the wash? Also on the old rags sometimes after time they can get build up in them even after washing which can cause streaking but nothing nearly that bad. Only other thing i can think of right now is did you make sure your hands are real clean and the bottles you put the UQD in, what were they previously used for and did you make sure to clean them real good before putting the UQD in. Have any pics?

i never let either QD or UQD dry on the surface.

after the wash the car was streak free, and clean other some swirls i need to polish out..

the mf towels i used that were not new, were only used once before and then washed, so i doubt hey had any build up in them..

hands were clean, and the bottle i put the UQD in was the bottle of QD i had just finished while claying..

i have 2 pics i took with my camera phone, but its only showing the new door handle

and a whole car shot from my apt window, none of the streakng..

Re: Everything is streaking on me!!!

Man i wish i could help but i don't have a clue right now maybe something will come to me later but i have never seen this before from any QD, the only other thing that may look like whitish streaking would be from the claying and not using enough lube and the clay will cause streaking leaving some residue on the car but that probably would have come off with the QD afterwords. Hopefully someone else will chime in that has seen this before. Pull it back out in the sun where you see the streaks and hit it on a small area with the UQD and see if you can remove the streaks without leaving any behind, just a thought.

Re: Everything is streaking on me!!!

only other time ive seen this happen was on a car that was extremely hot to the touch, from sun baking, but my car was cool and in the shade..

as of now its parked in a shaded spot at my jobs parking garage, im gonna see if quik detailing it lunchtime removes the streakng, but wiping it down in the shade, then pulling it up to the top level in the sun and inspect it..

i use plenty of clay lube by the way..i prolly use more than needed when it comes to clay lube, i dont use it sparingly, lol

Re: Everything is streaking on me!!!

Here's some shot in the dark suggestions besides, shake well before using...

            Try these four things...

            1) Try shrinking your work area down, that is try misting and wiping dry a small area as compared to a large section, for example shrink your work are down to about a foot squared.

Mist on some UQD, spread with a clean microfiber, turn the microfiber to a dry side and buff off the residue to a dry hard shine.

See if you can get a small section to look great.

            2) Try using our Quik Detailer, it's quite a bit different than both Speed Detailer and UQD, trouble shoot the problem by trying a more basic quick detailer. If you're still having a streaking problem, then it will be time to start looking for other causes of the problem besides the "Mist & Wipe products.

            3) If none of the above works, wash a panel, like the hood and see if washing makes the problem go away. If washing doesn't make the problem go away then it's probably something going on with the paint and not the products you're applying.

            4) Try applying a wax to a panel, for example the hood. Wipe the hood clean or wash the hood and dry it, then apply a thin coat of whatever wax you normally use and gives you good results and see if a coating of wax makes the problem go away. If it doesn't then it's definitely paint related and not product related.

This may sound like a stupid question, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere.

Did you spray, then wipe the car down, then turn the towel over and buff dry? Or did you just spray and wipe?

                Morning,

I have gone through cases of UQD and have never had that happen. There is something not right...

How did you wash the towels? How were they dried? By chance did you use a fabric softener or perhaos used the washing machine right after something else was washed that had used softener?

Did you shake the container before using?

Again, we will figure this out!

Re: Everything is streaking on me!!!

                    ok heres a thorough summary
been deatling, for over 7 years, nothing rotary involved though just pc and udm..

had the car since august 06..

i have given it numerous complete detail since ive had it, about 3 full details a year from , claying, polishing , sealing and waxing..plus all the steps in between..washing etc..

only thing i did different this time is i didnt have time to polish and seal after claying, so i just wipe it down with the speed detailer then uqd..so its not polished or waxed in any way right now, and is parked in a parking garage so no bird bombs or rain will really touch it all week untill this weekend when i can polish and seal/wax it..

i mist a panel at a time, like a fender, wipe very lightly, then either flip the towel or have a second handy for the dry buff.

in my apt complex we have washers and dryers, FREE, so ive gotten into the habbit of running the washer with just a lil tide in it, to wash the washing machine out before i use it to wash my mf towels..

i dry them on low heat, take them old fold them in fours and put right into my storage bin..

i shake the product very well, what did ya think i dont take heed to all the tip/tricks, and advice ive read around here over the years, lol, although i had to reregister recently, so it looks as though i havent been around as long..

its strange to me as well like i said ive seen a some streaking when the car was just to hot to mist and wipe..

thanks for all the help and suggestions ...

Re: Everything is streaking on me!!!

Man, The only thing I was going to suggest was the use of fabric softener. But you ruled that out. I am in the same boat as everyone else. No clue as to why this is happening. Maybe someone else can chime in. This is baffling.

Re: Everything is streaking on me!!!

Here's my WAG. If you used a lot (as in too much) QD while claying the surface, perhaps some of it didn't get removed entirely and dried on the surface. Applying another QD product on top could exacerbate the condition. Just guessing here since you didn't say you checked the surface in the light between claying and applying the next QD coat. Twere me....I'd re-clay a test section and then back the car into the light and see if there's a correction of the problem.

Re: Everything is streaking on me!!!

every panel was wiped down after it was clayed so that it didnt dry up on the car, lol..

figures, i went out lunch time, gave it a quik detail with UQD, pulled the car up to the top deck to inspect, although th esun had dissapeared, no lie, the minute i closed my door and hit the alarm, the skies opened up and strting downpouring, so i parke it back on the second level out of the rain..

one thing i can say abouth the smooth surface clay kit, is, didnt seem as good as hte clay i normally use which is clay magic, i expected a lot more discoloration of the clay, it being white, from dirt/grime that has settled in over the harsh winter..but one only panel really turned the clay brown..the very rear portion of the roof..

Just to add the Smooth Surface Clay Kit is the least agressive of the Meguiar's Clays. If you are looking for something a little stronger look into the megs detailing clay mild and detailing clay agressive

Theirs your problem try doing like Mike suggested.
I had the same problem last weekend when I was trying to get my car ready for judging at the car show.
I was using UQD and doing about a third of a panel at a time and it was streaking.
I stated doing a much smaller area and it was fine.
I have noticed this with DG Aqua Wax and Meg. UQD I think it maybe because both of these products are poly base.
Do a small area and report back as to how it turned out
