  • To Scratch X or Not!

Well, this winter it was so cold and the car was so dirty I made the mistake of going through a hand wash place. Since then the swirls on the car are really noticable. I plan to do a detailing job on the car once the weather gets warmer. The car is one year old this month, it's a Honda Fit Sport with clearcoat application. The Fit is know to swirl like crazy.

I purchased the new Meguiars Clay Bar system which I plan to do after a regular wash and dry. Then I purchased Scratch X and the new NXT wax. I have read that some people are getting light swirls out with using the NXT wax. The swirls are very easy to see in direct sun light and all over the car - should I go ahead and use the Scratch X just to make sure I remove the swirls or just try clay baring and wax first? I plan to put the car into some shows this summer and want to make sure that the swirls are not so obvious.

    Thanks,
    Cat :X

Are you doing it by hand or PC?

By all means it's good stuff.

    Using ScratchX to remove defects

How to remove swirls by hand

Remember to put some passion behind the pad (elbow grease) and do more than one pass if needed.

Not quite positive that NXT will "remove" swirls, it may fill them.

    Wash
    Clay
    Polish
    Wax
Maintain - Use UQD for in between waxing, works great.

What people are doing with NXT Tech Wax and most waxes that work, is masking the swirls. To remove swirls you need to remove paint and level the surface flat again, so if you have swirls and you want to put you car into some car shows then you need to remove the swirls before using NXT Tech Wax.

If you want to put your car into car shows you should consider investing into a G110 Dual Action Polisher as removing swirls by hand is a challenge. If you want to work by hand then ScratchX or M105 can be used to remove swirls and scratches by hand but you're going to learn to master the art of removing swirls, (removing paint), by hand and that will require some reading on this forum and then practicing on your car.
