My 928 is in the garage covered in tape waiting for my G110 to come back from Megs (switch failure):

I have a 2001 Porsche Boxster S (dark blue) with a swirl issue waiting in the wings. The 928 is not a priority so no big deal, I would like to get started on the Boxster. My G110 will not be here until next week, I'm trying to figure out what I should do.

I"ve never had much luck trying to remove swirls by hand in the past, but the more I read around this forum I wasn't using the right products.

So I'm thinking about going down to the store and grabbing some Scratch-X, see how that goes.

What do you guys think? These cars (from what I'm finding out) have hard paint.

If you dont want to wait for the machine, then yes, ScratchX by hand will be the product to use.

You want to work in small areas, about 1 foot square, and work in about 2 -3 applications and see how it goes. You want to be working it in with a lot of passion, almost making the car rock on the springs. Work till the product goes from creamy to greasy clear, remove, and check results.

      Re: Need some advice

      We always post,

"You don't know what you can do until you try"

      Or

"You don't know what you can do until you go out into your garage and do a test spot using your choice of products on your car's paint"

Might as well give ScratchX a try and see how your car's paint reacts, might be easy, might not. We had a guy bring us a black Lexus last night with a scratch about a foot long on the hood. We tried ScratchX and it worked a little meaning more applications of ScratchX would work, then we switched to M105 by hand and really started making some progress.

We still had to apply using some passion behind our pad but we did remove enough paint to remove the scratch right in the center of it where we were working. We purposefully only worked in the middle of the scratch so we could take pictures to show the results and to also let the owner take over after showing him how and the results.

Problem is we left our card reader at work and have no way to download the pictures onto our computer to see if the pictures came out good enough to post.

So both ScratchX and M105 by hand can be used to remove swirls and scratches. M105 is more aggressive but keep in mind it doesn't leave as nice a looking finish like ScratchX and will need to be followed with a less aggressive product and of course then you'll want to apply some wax.

Another option would be to use Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner and work this product really well over small section at a time as it will remove light scratches. At least it will give you something to do until your machine arrives.

Ah!!! It's hard to make this car rock on the springs pushing on it

I get the point, off to the store to find some scratch-X.

Hey Mike, that is what I was thinking, give it a whirl and see what happens. Just wanted to make sure I was jumping off the right cliff

        Thanks guys!

Goog luck on the project and hope you have some sucess by hand. I know i have tackled a car with scratchX by hand a while back and it look a few days and sore arms and hands but it came out pretty good. Hope that Porche paint isnt to hard

Maybe I'll run down to Harbor Freight & pick up one of their cheap rotary power buffer / sanders...
