Does the paint under the clear coat ever get in contact with the products

Ive read and learned that Meguire's products can nourish the paint with oils, protect the paint, revitalize paint color, remove dry old paint and restore the original new paint, etc...
With most modern new cars, are we not in actuality working on the clear coat instead and not the paint itself? Is the clear coat porous?
It might sound like a silly question to some Im sure but Ive been under the impression that the clear coat is what all these products come in contact with as if a see though glass and the paint is never touched except if the clear coat is damaged...Please enlighten me! Thanks!

Yes with most modern cars we are indeed working on a clear coat and when the products state they nourish the paint with oils, protect the paint, revitalize paint color, remove dry old paint and restore the original new paint, etc they are talking about the clear paint other words know as the clear coat. When it says revitalize the paint color it really means that it is cleaning the clear coat and taking out any below surface stains, light swirls and scratches which enhances the paint color because there is now nothing distorting the clear coat. Did i explain that right? i hope it makes since lol

thanks derrick.got it. So in summary almost all products are formulated and designed for the characteristics and properties of the clear coat and not the underlying paint right?

And...for single stage paints when there is no clear coat, just layers of colored paint such as older cars. I think I read that some factories still use single stage paint such as Lexus, but not positive.

Yes they are formulated for the clear paint or if you have a single stage paint then it does the same for the color paint. Im not a paint expert so im not sure what the difference is between a base coat and a single stage paint besides most base coat are not glossy. The clear coat is usually what gives them the high gloss effect. Maybe someone else can inform the both of us on the difference in paint when it comes to a single stage and the base coat of a b/c coat paint.

thanks for the replys, So I guess if lexus might have single stage, then its more of a desirable option right? Better attributes in single stage then a clear coat right? Lemme read up on the differences now...

Let me know what you find out. I would like to know about the differences as well. I know single stage paint tends to be alot easier to work on but I'm not sure about better attributes than clear coat. I think it might just be another thing with personal preference. They both have their good and bad qualities i guess. Like i heard someone say that the single stage paints tend to fade and become oxidized easier than a b/c coat paint but a b/c coat paint is easily scratched and the swirls show alot easier.
