  • tired of working by hand

I am tired of trying stuff by hand to remove swirl marks. I have some kinda buffer thing that I looked at yesterday. It is 2 speeds the low speed is 1100rpms and I am not sure about the high speed. Is it easy to mess up the paint at that speed? also what pad do I need and where do I get it? I am new at this electric stuff

this is what I got at my house

      Hey,

The picture you posted looks like a rotary buffer. If you are new to buffing, you should not use a rotary as there is quite a potential to damage the paint by inflicting buffer marks, holograms or even burning the paint.

If you want to get into machine polishing, one of the best and safest is using the variable speed Meguiar's G-100 or the Porter Cable Random Orbital Buffer. As well, there is a selection of pads available to suit the various situations.

Here is a link to the G-100 as well as the pad kit WDAV99-B:

        Hi mustangless,

Here's the picture you linked to,

Like Tim said, this is a rotary buffer. If you want to learn how to use machines to polish paint and remove swirls, you would be better off learning how to use Meguiar's G-100 Dual Action Polisher, which is a Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher.

It is very easy to use and achieve stellar results from. The rotary buffer on the other hand requires skill and experience in order to get good results.

Also, buffers like the one you have pictured above usually have the wrong size auger for attaching backing plates so you have to find a work-around in order to attach a backing plate that will work with foam pads to these style buffers. It can be done however, usually with a Helli-coil.

Hey that looks like the one I've been trying to use. Mine is a Wen, top speed is 1800rpm, not much tork tho. I put the 8" pads on and it will turn the light glazes, but not for 83. I can use the 6" pads but it still sounds like its going to come apart. It does work tho. Not hard to control either, but it can get away from you. I like my PC 7336 better. Just my .02
