  • Cleaner to use before #83 with PC

I'm considering purchasing a PC because removing defects by hand can be tough.

My usual three step process includes hand application of:
    -DC1
    -#81 Hand Polish
    -NXT wax.

If I were to use the PC and 83 or 82 to remove swirls, with what would I precede the application? Would I still use DC1 to clean the paint? I would guess that DC1 would be the best option because the other cleaners like Body Scrub or Medallion Paint Cleaner contain abbrasives, which would seemingly make the use of 83 or 82 redundant.

    Hey,

Meguiar's #83 DACP is the most aggressive product recommended to be used with the PC. Therefore, if your paint requires #83, there is nothing that precedes it. If you are working with black or dark colored paints, then I also suggest following the #83 with #82 Swirl Free Polish. This step will further refine the finish even more. Then use #81 Hand Polish and top with 2 coats of NXT Tech Wax.

    Cheers!

I see. I thought that a separate cleaner was needed to remove any stains or ground-in dirt from the paint. Then the swirls would be dealt with. Thanks for the info!

        Hey,

The only thing that should be done IMHO is to clay the car first. This will lift any bonded contaminents (ie. rail dust etc.) from the paints surface. Then follow this with #83 DACP.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Yes, clay will take care of the ground in dirt. Remember, DACP stands for Dual Action Cleaner / Polish. Here's the description from the store:

Moderate abrasive power removes light to medium contamination. A touch more aggressive than Meguiar's Swirl-Free Polish, our Dual Action Cleaner Polish effectively deals with more significant stains, swirls, blemishes and oxidation. Its safe, Buffered Abrasiveā„¢ cleaning action attacks defects while guarding your finish against scratches. Rich polishing oils ensure a memorable shine. Made For Professionals

Oh, of course. That makes sense. Thanks Perry and Tim. I had missed the reference to staining in the DACP description. I already clay and have found it very effective!

I guess now I just have to get the cash together before plunging into the world of machine application!
