  • Mike's Video Revisited

In preparation for the detailing season, I watched the "How-TO use the PC for showcar results" DVD again. There is so much good stuff and techniques on this DVD that I encourage everyone who is starting out to get a copy and watch it a few times. Reminders I found helpful:

    1. Claying; how to hold the clay and what the paint should feel like when you are done.

    2. Using the PC; correct arm and pad speed, size of work area.

    3. Waxing; demonstration of the swipe method.

    4. Using a polish; application and removal techniques.

    5. Final wipedown.

    6. Applying spray wax.

I don't have any financial interest in the DVD; I just find this such a great resource for people like myself who want to have a great-looking car.

For anyone new to machine polishing this section alone is worth the price of the DVD. It is here where you get the vast majority of your results or experience the most frustration if you get it wrong. All of the variables need to work in harmony or you'll just be pushing product around on the paint. Get it wired and the results can exceed your expectations.

Along with that, Mike, I suggest that new detailers stick with one set of products until they are confidant they can replicate results with them. Then try a new wax or pad combo.

when your just starting out, remember the old saying. "keep it simple Simon" This way after you dial in your technique and gain experiance, then go on to other products.
        quality creates its own demand

          Re: Mike's Video Revisited

I just received my video along with my G110 kit from ADS. It is an exercise in restraint but I am watching the DVD a couple of times before I even crack open the G110. I agree that seeing the process of working the products properly is really helping me understand what it is that I am about to do.

Thanks Mike for doing the video!

Along with the arm speed, the part about cleaning the pad "on the fly" is probably one of the most important things to remember when polishing.
