  • Paint Depth Guage

I was reading where using a paint depth guage is a smart thing to do.

Where can those be purchased and how can you tell a good one from a bad one.

Do you recommend getting and using one of these.

    Hi Bill,

Paint thickness gages are good for a number of things, one is to determing where a car has been repainted, another is to determine where really thin paint is, which can help you to avoid those areas.

I'll dig up the website for these gages.

shop around and look at all the differnt ones and find what will suit you best. Then keep your eyes open on ebay, sometimes they come up for a good deal. I picked up an etg paint thickness gauge like th eone mike has at meguiars for $250 including shipping. It was new and still in the original case.

There are currently two listed on Ebay but, as always, buy at your own risk.
