Yeah, I too noticed that the bonnets were a problem.
The TW ones seemed a little loose while the stock ones were incredibly tight. In fact, the stock ones caused the permanent backing pad to start peeling off.
As far as performance goes, I really couldn't tell a difference between the two styles.
It's been a while since I last used the orbital, though.
Lets say I decide to first try my orbital at the polishing stage. Right now, I use #7. Can I use it with my orbital and more importantly, HOW MUCH product do I put on?
Since it is a 9 inch orbital, do I want to cover a good portion of it to ensure necessary lubrication? Should I put some product directly on the car?
Next... once I put on the polish, do I switch bonnets and remove it with the orbital, or should I remove it by hand?
Thanks guys.

yes #7 can be used by hand, orbital buffer and DA polisher. What type of bonnet would you be using for this application? As for getting good coverage on the bonnet i used to just put a little ring around the outside and inside then place it on the car and work around a little to spread the product then turn on the buffer. With removal do that part by hand with polishes. you can use the buffer to remove a wax but with a polish you should not let it dry and trying to take it off with the orbital will cause you to just work the product dry.

Derrick,
Thanks for the response. To answer your questions...
I have two 100% cotton terry bonnets and two MF bonnets. The MF bonnets seem to be of a much higher quality, but both were purchased at Pep Boys for about the same price.
Removing polish by hand makes sense. Thanks. I'm really excited to give this a try this weekend.
As for the quantity of #7 to use, I get the sense I'm a bit too skimpy in my use of all products - really pushing the "thin coat" envelope. I'll try to be a bit more generous in my application.

i would shoot for the foam polishing bonnets they have at like pep boys and places like that. they work pretty good on the orbital. on the amount of product to use i would say to not try and stretch it but dont go crazy with it either if that makes sense. i was sitting here trying to think how to word it to explain the right amount of product but i guess it comes with practice. Maybe someone else will come up with a better way of telling you the right amount of product. good luck and make sure to post up some pics when your done

It figures!!! I go out and buy terry bonnets and MF bonnets and you suggest foam polishing bonnets!!!
I was at auto zone last night and saw some foam bonnets and thought to myself "those look awfully rough to be using on my paint". Foiled at every turn!!! lol
I will certainly take some pics when done.

who is the maker of the foam pads you are talking about? the ones i have seen out here are closer to the polishing pad but maybe i could be off since it has been a while but i do remember that i never had and problems with it.

I don't remember, I saw them at Auto Zone (last night). Is there a brand you can recommend and will they fit on my orbital the way the other bonnets do?

Well im going out today to get some more products and if i see anything ill let you know. I think the one i used came with the buffer so it might be different.
also if anyone else has anymore info on certain bonnets out there that they would recommend pleae let us know

Okay, so I finally got around to using my orbital and I think there must be something wrong with it. It would "sit" on the car, rather, it would "bounce" when I would touch it to the finish (of course wifey's car was the guinea pig).
I didn't scratch anything, but I KNOW this can't be right, right?
