  • Quick Clay Kit vs. Smooth Surface Clay Kit

I´m new to detailing and here where I live, I could only buy the Quick Clay Kit, so I´m wondering if it is the same as the Smooth Surface Clay Kit and if I should polish after clay or only wax (maybe with Meguiars Cleaner Wax), so I´ve read in other forums different opinions about it, thanks for your help! I´m planning to do it on next weekend.

Re: Quick Clay Kit vs. Smooth Surface Clay Kit

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

We don't make the Quik Clay Kit anymore, you might still be able to find some on the shelves or at online suppliers but we did quit making it and now we only make the Smooth Surface Clay Kit.

As for performance they both did the same job and both perform the same as they both have the same clay and Quik Detailer inside of them. The Smooth Surface Clay Kit also includes a 4 ounce sample of our cleaner/wax and a new Supreme Shine Microfiber polishing cloth.

As for your question about polishing after claying and before waxing, Meguiar's always states this is an option step of which the results are usually best seen on darker colors.

    Question...

    What are you working on?
What are you trying to accomplish?

Re: Quick Clay Kit vs. Smooth Surface Clay Kit

Thanks for your quick answer, I´ll try to get the Smooth Surface Kit instead, but if I couldn´t get it, please tell me if the Quick Clay kit would be fine (although it contains only one piece of clay, I believe), since is my first claying job. I´m working on a Honda Civic 2000 white color and the biggest problem of it is that is almost always parked outside, recently I change the hood, because of a little accident, so I plan to skip this piece of the claying work, since it has brand new paint. Please could you tell me if the Cleaner Wax could work fine for me after the clay? Thanks.

You get the same amount of clay in both kits, one kit has two 50 gram bars and the Quik Clay Kit has one 100 gram bar, so if you find a Quik Clay Kit just tear the claybar in to two pieces and store them in their own sandwich baggies with a little spray of Quik Detailer on them.

Before you work on your car you should always wash or carefully wipe the paint clean using a quick detailer. After you have washed or wiped the car clean, feel this new paint to make sure it's smooth like brand new glass, sometimes brand new paint may have a little overspray on it and claying will usually remove this. Save for the rest of the car, if it was in a body shop while the hood was being painted, the rest of the panels could also have some overspray on them as body shops spray paint thus there's overspray in the air sometimes.

        Thanks.
You bet. Our Cleaner/wax has been working GREAT since 1973 and has been improved over all these years to keep up with new technology and chemistry to keep it working great on today's cars.

Apply, work in, let dry wipe off. Thin coats are best.

Thanks for your help! I´ll keep you informed about the results. On the other hand what product recomend for the rubber molding and plastic trims, although my car doesn´t have much of them the most are faded and seem too dry, a friend of mine told me about Nu Vinyl but I´m unsure about using it, thanks in advance.
