what do you guys all use, would it be ok,or last,by using hotshine aresol,or tire foam?and would it hurt anything by doing the same on plastic parts under the hood and intake manifold?thanks

    Re: wheel well dressing

It would be ok for wheelweels, though ASD would likely be more cost effective.

I dunno about under the hood. I have used ASD on occaision under there with no problems, but some people seem to be against it because of the heat.

I have used tire foam in my wheel wells from time to time, seems to work quite well. All Season Dressing might be an option as mentioned above, I have found Hyper-Dressing to be the best option in my case both under the hood and in the wheel wells... just spray it on and let it sit no wiping and very inexpensive when mixed.

Under the hood, nothing beats . . . should I say it?

CD-2 engine detailer (if you can find it).

I do agree... CD-2 is a good product, it looks good and lasts and as you mentioned good luck finding it.

That said, I don't care for the application, seems I have to saturate the entire engine bay to ensure all surfaces are covered, it seemed to use a lot of product and the smell will get you during application!

On the plastic fender well inner linings, I clean them with a brush and soap, then once dry, I simply apply silicon-based tire dressing to them. It blackens them really well, and makes them a breeze to keep clean.

I am more partial to the all season dressing for the wheel wells. It is economical and gives a long lasting shine imho.

Well that depends, have you tried Meguiar's Hyper Dressing for a comparison?

                    Re: wheel well dressing

                    Hi Tim,

Sorry, ""nothing beats" is a bit confrontational.

Isn't hyper dressing water based? Not that one will get a bunch of water in the engine well, otherwise you'll have bigger problems.

That said, I have not tried hyper dressing. But the product I mentioned is that good that once you use it, it's hard to deviate.

Rather than continue to trounce all over spence's thread as soon as I detail my engine (I'll try tomorrow) I'll post my own report (w/ pix and all).

                    Happy Easter.

Can you use Hyper Dressing on metal surfaces, just like CD2 Engine Detailer?

                        Re: wheel well dressing

I prefer Hyper-Dressing - doesn't seem to attract as much dirt as other dressings.

                          Re: wheel well dressing

To put things back on topic...

For wheel wells, I use Meguiar's Hyper Dressing at a 3:1 dilution. As I have mentioned over the years, it does not attract dust as much as other dressings. It applies easily and spreads out evenly.

My other product which I still have a special stock of is the discontinued Meguiar's Engine Kote.
