I am new to the forum and now more confused about detailing then EVER! I have always wanted to really detail my cars ( Had a Firebird and Camaro) but never felt they looked good afterwards so why bother. Pre-internet days.lol
Well my granddad owned his own garage was a very well known and respected mechanic. He passed away in Feb. of 07 and I got to get his truck.
He always bought used JUNK for himself because he hauled stuff and it just didn't really matter. Well something made him buy a nicer used truck but he got to sick to really enjoy it.
It is HONOR to have Pap's truck and if last me 50 years it will always be "Pap'sTruck!"
Now Pap was a Ford man and Fords are known for their completely crappy paint jobs and rusting... I know this because the whole family are Ford People! hehe!
Someone at a car wash about 6 years ago heard me complaining about the spray type car wash not doing that great of a job and he came over and wiped the car down and used something from Meguir's on it. The car never looked so good and I Haven't forgotten the Meguir's Name!
So.... that brings me to this site and I took the questinaire thing and now my head is spinning!!! So many products, so many recommendations but nothing I saw said
WHAT TO DO FIRST? What to do 2nd? 3rd? 4?
It is a 1995 Ford F-150 Eddie Bauer and is Maroon? Burgundy? W/ the Tan trip and chrome bumpers. There are chrome rails on the bed and a crappy bed liner.
It is COVERED in light ( would say cobweb) swirl marks and some light, some not so light brush marks ( from living on a one lane dirt road and when you have to get over for someone to pass the brush scratches)
There are numerous rust spots smaller then a pencil eraser. These are completely random. On the tailgate there are three close together, then one said had has like 4 spread out over the whole side?
I can't afford to go out and buy EVERY product that I need right now and living on the East Coast , right now the weather is crazy, but I need to know what all I need so I can buy a little at a time but then I always want to know ahead of time what needs to be done, in what order.
I also can't afford a new paint job and lots of body work.
PLEASE help me make Pap's Truck SHINE as much as I can and tell me what I need to do , to keep it that way!
Oh, one more thing.... I know I can NEVER have a vehicle that stays shiney living on a dirt road but what can do to help make dirt/dust removal easier AND keep the brush from scratching so much?
