  • layering NXT.

I spend 2 hours yesterday and 1 hour today doing some exterior detailing of my car. Here's what I've done yesterday.
    *Quik Detailing
    *Claying
    *Applying Swirl Remover #9 2.0
*Polishing with Show Car Glaze #7
    *Waxing with NXT

    And today
    *Quik detailing
    *Waxing with NXT

How long should I wait before applying a third coat of NXT?
I waited 24 hours before doing the second.

The results are awesome. I've never done this combination before, and those of you who never tried it - go ahead and try it! You will love it!!!

    Hey,

For between coats of NXT or any Meg's Sealant, you should wait overnight to apply additional coats. This will allow the NXT to 'set-up' so that you can obtain maximum performance from the product.

Please post some pics when done!!!

      Hi supercharged,

I always notice a difference after two coats, I'm not sure if I've ever noticed a difference after three coats.

I would suggest applying the third coat the next day if you want to apply a third coat. Apply very gently, not aggressively. You might also consider letting some time go by and let the normal course of wear and tear take place and then add another coat.

Remember, paint protectants are sacrificial-barriers intended and designed to wear away. The idea being that your layer of wax sacrifices itself so your paint doesn't have to.

Just to comment and hopefully not take this thread to far off topic, I have been in phone conversations with the owner of a back Corvette in Oregon who recently took a second place finish after applying two coats of NXT. He called me back and asked for some advice on preparing his finish to insure he has done everything he can to take his finish to it's maximum potential.

Here's the advice I gave him, and also to Mark whom we did a makeover to his 1970 Corvette last week.

Now that both of these cars have had the proper prep work performed to the finish and have 2 applications of NXT Tech Wax, the day before leaving for the car show, apply a third coat of NXT Tech Wax. Allow the Tech Wax to fully cure and then remove. This should be approximately 10-15 minutes.

Then, after removing the wax, back away from the car and leave it alone. Don't keep wiping the finish. Let time go by and allow the polymers to fully set-up.

Wait till later that night, or first thing the next morning, (before you drive off to the show), to give the car a final wipe.

Here's what I notice all the time at the clinics we hold on Saturday's. After removing the Tech Wax, it's a natural inclination to want to keep wiping the car. People walk around and look at the finish and then give it another wipe.

Every time you do this you are disrupting the polymers before they have fully set-up. Quit it. Back away from the car. Allow some time to go by for the polymers to fully set-up and then give it a final wipe.

Pull the car into different light and inspect the finish, make sure there are no smudges, streaks, or places that you have missed.

If you find any smudges or smears, or places with wax still present, take your softest, microfiber polishing cloth, fold it four ways, and then softly, gently and slowly wipe the finish. Allow the fibers of the microfiber to adsorb any excess product by wiping slowly and gently. Do not push the polishing cloth over the finish like a wild man.

Then, stand back and admire the results. If you're going to show the car, stop at this point and show the car. Your car's finish will always look it's best after you have applied your last application of the LSP of your choice.

Everything and anything after that will only tend to diminish the results your LSP has created. This can include wiping the car down with a quick detailer. If after getting to the show you need to use a quick detailer to remove light dust, smudges, bugs splatter or bird droppings, then do so, but if you don't have to, your finish will always look its best after your last application of your LSP and your last and final wipe with your polishing cloth.
