  • Wax sit overnight?

    Hi,

    I am new here.

I had a question it may sound dumb. be warned

Is it a good idea to apply nxt 2.0 tech wax and let it sit overnight and wipe off in the morn or is that bad?

    Thanks

Shouldnt hurt anything, but I'd try not too. There is no benefit, and you'll likely get dust and dirt stuck on the wax overnight, then dragging it around to remove it.

I would not do it either.

This doesn't add any benefit to it, remove it when it's cured

          Morning Sean,

Allowing a wax to sit on the paint too long before removal is just as bad as removing it too soon. Leaving the product dry for longer than necessary before removing can cause streaking. Therefore, I would suggest using the Swipe Test, removing the product when it is ready to be removed.

As Tim stated, leaving the wax on over night can only cause streaking. When he talks about a swipe test, it would require running your finger across the surface where the wax has started to dry. If there is any wax left on the surface, the wax is not ready to be removed.

Depending on the temperature, it shouldn't take more than an hour at the most to dry.

I don't think it's a good idea to let the wax sit that long. Once it passed the swipe test it should be ok to remove.

It was 38 degrees yesterday when I applied NXT 2.0 to my Corvette and it still dried within about 15-20min. I applied it over the entire car first and then started buffing it off right away without waiting (I buffed the panels off in the same order as I applied them so they had about 15-20min of dry time obviously), and had no problems removing it at all. I didn't do my usual super thin coat either, I applied it a tiny bit thicker than usual just to be sure I got the entire car covered for protection in case we get more snow storms here (which I'm sure we will!)

I see no reason at all to let it sit overnight when it already dries so fast even in cool temps. This stuff is truly amazing, very user friendly!

                      Just to make it official...

Meguiar's waxes can be and should be removed after they have completely dried and swipe clear using the Swipe Test.

                      The Swipe Test

There is no need to let a wax set overnight and there is no benefit to letting one of our waxes sit overnight, in fact if any dust blows onto the car you could scratch the paint by rubbing this dirt/dust over the paint while wiping the wax off.

Best practice is to apply a thin coating of wax, let it fully dry and then wipe of the excess.
