Heat it up with a hair dryer or heat gun (careful with the heat gun though as some can get really hot) then use some Goo-Gone and work it in good. It will take some time but it will come off. Remember to wax the area when you're done!

thanks for the suggestions..!
i have tried the goo-gone, it took some of the glue residue off, but i still have some left.
i then tried meguiar's clay and that removed some more
followed by meguiar's cleaner/wax
still got some left....
so, next would be the heated solution or scratch X or deep cyrstal paint cleaner and just slowly working the products you all mentioned.
ive got residue on my unpainted black trim (roof mouldings) that i havent been able to get off for months. tried 303, DC1 and gold class trim detailer. going to try turps or goo-remover next, nothing seems to be working!
i was referring to the residue from taping. not caked-on product against the edge of the tape but actual sticky residue from the tape itself, caused by being left on too long in too hot weather.
