The washer mix is good in winter with ice/slush on windshield before the defroster can melt the ice....since its freeze point is -25 or so....

But agree does seem to leave a bit of film but then this maybe the Rain X quality staying behind.

My opinion - It may have to do with the curve of the windshields on different makes....Until now always had Hyundai , Nissan or Honda and the curve of windshield so different found that only factory replacement wipers worked ( the ones at auto stores or oil change places didnt make 100% contact )

Now with my new Chevy Silverado, can run down to local auto store and THEY FIT and WORK and do not notice as much chatter as on my previous brands.

        Re: Rain X

My glass is so clean that the water beads up and off it without RainX. I only use my wipers if it's a REALLY bad rain storm. Like it sounds like here, I've heard mixed results about RainX, so I've never used it myself. Some people love it and others hate it. Whow knows.

          Re: Rain X

I use RainX on all the windows except the front windshield. I do get the foggy look to the windows at night. I think I found that it's mainly because the windshield has some grime on it in the first place. But then, once I clayed and deep cleaned the windshield with #4 and a terry towel, the windshield was so clean that water beaded right off on its own.

              I am a big Rain X fan!
I've been using it since it came out.
I've never had a problem. You must "Polish" it off to get ride of the hazing, then you get a real nice shine on your windows.
Also I use their Window Washing Fluid so, it keeps it on your window.
Never had a problem with it.
              Works great for me.

the haze u probably get is the residue from not being completly wiped off. the best way to wipe off rainx is with a sopping wet towl turned over 3 times to ensure its off. the rainx should also last ATLEAST half a year.

                      Re: Rain X

                      A few questions...

                      1. What exactly is "wiper chatter"? I ask, because I'm not sure if I have it but here is what I did notice.... I first bought Rain-X years ago (spray) and used it on a 2002 Honda Accord with brand new wipers. Prior to using the Rain-X the wipers worked amazing and once I used the rain-x, the wipers went into the gutter. They began to streak my windshield, wouldn't remove all the water etc... I tried cleaning the actual wiper but to no avail. I ended up buying new OEM wipers, but before I did, I removed the rain-x from the windshield.

                      2. I tried it again on my mother's car with the exact same result, only her wipers were older than mine.

                      3. For those who use it, do you use the spray or another form (I've seen a bar - I think)?

                      4. When I was applying it, it seems VERY difficult to put on "streak free". I feel like the window has a permanent smear to it. Maybe I just dont' know what I'm doing.

                        Re: Rain X

                        1. Where the wiper kind of skips across the windshield and makes a very annoying sound.
                        2. It has happened on every vehicle I've used it on too.
                        3. Spray. There is a wax form, but I have no desire to get it. If anything, buy some Aquapel. It was designed by the glass makers and actually bonds to the glass.

                            Re: Rain X

I hate buffing that stuff off. I will usually wash and clay all the windows first. Apply the rain-x. Let it dry while doing the rims and tires. Then wash the car as usual. Windows are usually 100% clear. No build up. No chatter. IMO I don't think this method has any effect on longevity either.

I had to replace my windshield a few months ago. The guy applied Aquapel to the windsheild and in my opinion, it is better than RainX in many ways. It is easier to apply and lasts longer.

He told me he was selling it for $5 each. I will definitely get more this summer.....

                                Re: Rain X

I've tried Rain-X once and I don't see what the big deal is with it.

It's hard to use (hard to buff off) and gave me a hazy film after a couple of weeks.

Since then I've found I get the best results by just keeping my windows clean (wash the car weekly) and QD'ing them weekly. Water beads off and visibility is excellent. Oh, and I polish/wax my windows once or twice a year too.

Any one who wants 99% of a bottle of Rain-X can have mine!

The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
