  • How much pressure?

How much pressure should be applied to the paint while claying? I generalyl use moderate but I have a vehicle that seems to have a lot of contaminates. Could this require a paint cleaner as well? Thanks

    Re: How much pressure?

How much pressure is determined by how bad your paint is contaminated, some contaminants won't come off with out a little encouraging read to mean pressure.

Light contaminants come off with light pressure, heavy concentrations of above surface bonded contaminants may require more pressure. Be sure to move your clay/hand fast over the surface and not real s-l-o-w-l-y...

Do a test section about 8" to 12" inches square, clay this section until it is absolutely glassy smooth. Then remember how long and how much work it took to get these results and duplicate this over the rest of the car.

Remember if your removing a lot of gunk off the paint to fold and knead your clay often.

Also don't push so hard that you scratch the paint by forcing a contaminants into the paint. Inspect your clay often, if it looks so dirty that it could cause problems get some new clay.

It's cheaper and faster to get new clay than it is to remove swirls and scratches out of a clear coat finish.

Not really a Guru, at least not like those guys on other forums, we just like to do 2 things in life,
        1. Polish paint
        2. Show others how to polish paint

Simple really but a lot of fun and very rewarding.

Thanks for the kind words just the same.
