  • How to power my PC 7424 without an outlet?

    I recently moved at the end of last Summer into a condo building that has underground parking. My old building also had underground parking but it had two electrical outlets in which to power my PC 7424 and other things like a portable steam cleaner, vacuum etc. My new condo has no outlets whatsoever to be found and I'm wondering how I can power my things now.

    Here's the things I've considered that probably won't work:

    - I can't tap into any existing lights or electrical devices for power inside the garage. Everything is bolted down and I'm pretty sure even if I could tap into them, I'd get evicted if caught.

    - I don't want to run anything off my car's battery. I tried this once before and it ruined my battery to the point where I had to get a new one.

    - No generators or gas-powered devices are allowed in my building's garage, I checked with the security about this and it's not allowed at all.

    How can I get some power for 2-3 hours without using any of the methods listed above? Is there some sort of powerful battery pack I can use to get these things powered up? I'd hate to think I can't figure this out because, in the end, our building has about 200+ cars in it, it's a gold mine for work!!!

    Thanks in advance,
    Dale

      Have you tried a 12V - 110V power inverter?
      Not the cheap cigarette lighter kind, but a decent one that will power a portable TV or Laptop, or even stronger.
      I'd check for one at a Motorhome salse & service place, or a Camping Supply store.

        I don't know if 110V is really powerful enough for my needs and I really don't want it to drain my car's battery (or the customer's car I'm going to work on) either. I've tried inverters in the past and they are really unreliable when it comes to getting power and transferring it to another source.

        I think I found something though here in Toronto:

        It's a nice and powerful powerbox that's portable and has enough power for the pc7424 and other things too. I have to check it out in person though and see all the specs for it.

        Thanks for replying,

          That looks like it would do the trick but who knows how long it would run the PC before you had to recharge it.

            Yeah, it looks great but I'll have to go to the C.T. Boutique and get all the specs on it from someone who knows these things in and out. If I could get a full weekend from one charge, great! If I have to charge it everytime I use it, it kinda defeats the purpose of getting it (especially at $300+) If I can run my PC and vacuum off it for a reasonable amount of time for each, then perhaps I'll look into getting it.

              hey dale
              I've been mobile detailing for a little while and needed some power where there was none so I got a ATD(advanced tool design) 1500 watt power invertor with a 3000 watts peak surge.($197.00)It has two power outlets,digital display for watts and volts being used and a cooling fan.
              Run it off a duralast marine battery 1000 amps at 32 degrees, a group 27 battery.(around $80 or$90)
              It runs my makita with no problems at all for hours!
              Wattage rattings can be calculated by using this formula
              volts(120) x amps = wattage
              my invertor will power 12 amps with no problems
              9 amps=1080 wattage
              10amps=1200 wattage
              11amps=1320 wattage
              12amps=1440 wattage
              13amps=1560 wattage
              14amps=1680 wattage
              15amps=1800 wattage

                There was a thread online about a guy that uses a 750W inverter to power his 7424. You will need to use your battery or another...you need a high amp power source.

                This is a typical apartment dweller's solution for using power tools on their car outside BTW.

                  LOL they do not allow GAS-POWERD DEVICES???????????
                  so ppl push their cars in?

                  I would go talk to the condo manger my dad is a condo manger and i Think this would be the way to go. First i would ask if they could provide a power outlet for your use. If he/she doesent budge i would "bribe" him/her and offer to detail His/her car. if that doesent work try the gen. route.

                    I don't know if this would work for you but but might go to www.xantrex.com They make power packs/power supplies. Mine will supposedly run a 20 watt AC appliance for 6 hours. Just a thought.

                      Yeah, at least try to work something out with the manger/owner before making any decisions. Surely there's some kind of solution that would work for the both of you.
