I offered to detail a friend's '91 Honda Accord because I need the practice, being a newbie. The car's finish is badly neglected, but, armed with M80, a DA, and a cheap rotary, I thought I could tackle it. I washed the car first, admittedly thru a swirl tunnel.
The hood looked like this:

The roof and deck lid are similar.
I first thought it was oxidation. The paint finish is kind of mottled in some areas of the horizontal panels. I clayed the car, used M80 and a DA, small areas at a time as I learned from this forum, then wiped down with QD. When the QD dried, the mottled areas came back. I wiped it again, it looked good for a few seconds, then the mottled areas came back. My yellow 8006 pad had some black on it after polishing, so I figured it wasn't oxidation, maybe it's some kind of dirt or substance. On the roof, which has similar areas of 'mottleness', I sprayed alcohol window cleaner and wiped it with an MF. It looked good, smooth and shiny, then the 'mottleness' came back, albeit a little less. I sprayed a cleaner on it, like a 409 type, and wiped with a MF. It helped some, but is there some way I can clean that off before I polish with the M80? The substance, whatever it is, seems a little gummy, it sort of spreads or moves a bit when I wipe it with QD. I don't want to spread it around, or gum up my 8006 pad. The M80 with the DA doesn't take it off. Now that I'm typing this, I remember that car is always parked under trees. Maybe it's sap?
Any suggestions?
