Better? That's a tough one. They are different and different is better for different things.
That didn't help you at all did it?!?!
The edge ones just scare me. I've heard stories about the metal center pushing though or a pad ripping and exposing the metal shaft. I'm sure it doesn't happen very often but it would take only once to really ruin my day.
Right now I use both the Meguair's pads and the CCS 5". I like the 5" for getting in to the smaller areas. They are thiner and have a bit denser foam. The Meguiar's pads I like for the larger areas and for curved areas since they are thicker and I can get a bit more bend to them. Mostly in the CCS family I use the white CCS pads, they are pretty close to the Meg's polishing pads. I have also used the orange ccs pads, they are pretty dense foam with a cut right around the Meg's cutting pad. I have some blue ones that I haven't used yet for applying wax and sealants.
One of the listed benefits of the Lake CCS pads is that is does not soak up product. Can anyone confirm that it does not?
That's my only frustration with the Meg's pads.
I don't think it soaks up as much product. I don't think it's because of the little dimple things, it just seems like a bit denser foam. Of course I'm comparing 5" CCS pads to 6.5" Meg's, plus the CCS are thiner. lol, so yes they do soak up less, but I'm not sure of the exact reason.
I bought some 6.5in CCS pads with my last order. I got a finishing pad(blue) and polishing pad(white). Ive not gotten a chance to use them yet but they look a feel like they are quality pads.
Ive been wanting to get a new backing plate before the old Megs backing plate takes all the velcro off my pads but gosh those things are $$.
I would use a polishing pad for #80 and a finishing pad for color-x. If Im only using color-x I like to use a polishing pad to help remove mild swirls. Always use a finishing pad with a LSP.
To remove the hazed wax you need to use a cutting pad with a bonnet over it. The cutting pad is very stiff so it gives the bonnet more support. Meguiars does not recommend using a cutting pad with the PC as it will cause Micro marring due to the motions of the PC. You can only use a cutting pad when you have a bonnet over it.
