  • Wax layering on black?

ok, so here's what i'm thinking...

I have a black truck, and want it to be very deep, rich and reflective (don't we all?). So i considered this order of products for protection after DC Paint Cleaner, DACP, DC polish and #7...

    1. Gold Class wax for it's darkening and gloss
    2. NXT for it's reflection and protection
    3. DC Carnuba for it's depth and warmth

the question here is, I've heard that GC and NXT have cleaners in them, so would the NXT coat remove the darkness of the GC?

Also, how durable is carnuba? I've heard it's easily washed off after a little rain and a few washings. Can i put synthetic wax over carnuba, or won't it stick???

If my order of layering is wrong, let me know.

lots of questions, but answers to any would be apprecited.

    Stevo.

    Hi Stevo,

    My $ 0.02

I think some of your planned steps are redundant.

If you are going to use #83 you can skip DC1. DACP is suited for PC or rotary use. You didn't say if you had a PC, If not just go with the DC#1.

DC #2 polish and #7 do the same thing. Of the two I prefer #7.

I'd forget using GC Wax and just do NXT x2.

If you want to top NXT try doing a small area with DC#3 (the carnauba) and compare the results. I think you will be hard pressed to see the difference.

You can't top NXT with GC or any wax that has cleaners in it as it would remove the NXT. I also would not try to top GC Wax with NXT as the cleaners in NXT would remove the GC Wax.

If you want darkening you might also want to try topping NXT with #26 High Tech Yellow Wax.

      Thanks for the feedback,

I do have a PC, and wasn't sure if it would have more of an effect if i had used DC 1 first.

As far as the wax goes, that's pretty much the answer i expected.

the thing is, i already own gold class, and if the difference is minimal, maybe i could use the GC and then top it with DC 3???

i've never used NXT, so i've never experienced it first hand, but would like to use up my GC before or in between coats of NXT if i end up making the switch.

      any advice on that?

      Thanks

I'd give it to a friend.

Not that I didn't like using it but NXT is SO much better that I just can't bring myself to use it any more.

That sounds like good advice. I've used #26 Yellow Wax as a top coat over #20 Polymer Sealant on plenty of dark colored vehicles, especially black. #26 should work just as good over NXT too.

I'd say forget the GC. My person favorite combo right now is NXT followed by MPPP. I realize MPPP has some cleaning power, because of this I apply it using a foam applicator and very light pressure. I have done a side by side comparison of MPPP vs. NXT + MPPP and the NXT/MPPP combo definitely wins. However, NXT x 2 looks amazing too, especially on black.

            Good luck!
