I believe my microfiber towels are scratching the finish. While doing correction on a hood, I compounded with the rotary, applied an intermediate polish with the rotary, and finished off with a finishing polish via my DA. I inspected the finish closely after each step to ensure all appropriate correction was being completed prior to moving on to the next step. When I was done using the DA, I wiped off the polish and noticed straight scratches on the finish in the same direction I wiped with the MF. I used a fresh MF to wipe the hood and ensured the lining surrounding the towel was tucked in. I store all of my MF in a vacuum sealed Space Saver bag immediately after washing them. Additionally, I sprayed QD on hood and wiped with the appropriate amount of pressure needed to remove the residue. The hood is black and the clearcoat is somewhat soft. Has anyone else had similar problems? If so, any recommendations?

Re: Has anyone ever had issues with microfiber towels scratching the finish?
Unless I am missing something, you went from compound to wax? That would be why you have scratches still. You have to remove those scratches with something lighter. You have to go something like this: remove extra heavy cut with heavy, heavy with medium, and medium with light.
If that's not it, then maybe there was excess QD? That will cause streaking. Also, you shouldn't have to use pressure to remove QD. That could be a problem as well.
What kind/brand MF are you using?

No, I didn't go from compounding to wax. I compounded (1200-1500 grit scratches) with a rotary, polished with an intermediate polish (1500 grit) via the rotary, and then polished with a finishing polish (2000 grit) using a DA. Before I moved from one step to another, I ensured appropriate paint correction was achieved in relation to the process (i.e., only wool instilled swirls remained after compounding). However, when I was done working the finishing polish, I noticed straight scratches (unlike swirls which would indicate an issue with pads, polish, technique...) were present. These scratches followed the direction of the MF I used to remove the residue from the finishing polish. I'm 95% certain they were caused by the MF. Like I mentioned in my initial post, the MF was clean, the surface was lubricated with QD, there was no dust from the polish being overworked, and the MF lining surrounding the towel was tucked in.

That is possible. I have worked on paint before that was so soft, too much pressure with an MF would cause scratching. It wasn't that the MF was rough, it was just extremely soft paint. What kind of MF are you using?Lydia's Mobile Detailing
