  • How to stop windsheild wiper shuttering/skipping/squeaking

I had this problem like about everyone else in the world and it is one of the few things that really annoys me while i drive. The thing that makes me mad is that the wiper blades i am currently using are no more than a year old and i always clean them whenever i wash my car. So, i tried ways to help it and i finally found a way to help it.

Thoroughly clean/condition your wiper blades with a wiper treatment. (I used 303 Wiper Treatment Wipes.) This is a really nice product... *wink wink* Meguiar's

Then, use your preferred glass cleaner and thoroughly clean and dry the glass streak and lint free.

After, apply a thin coat of wax with a good applicator pad. (I used NXT Tech Wax in the Liquid Form.)

After letting sit for 10-15 min to thoroughly dry and haze up, remove all wax and then test it out.

WORKED GREAT FOR ME! NO SHUTTERING, SKIPPING, OR SQUEAKING WHATSOEVER!

Well, this method worked well for me, so if you have this problem why not try?!

THANKS FOR READING AND HAPPY DETAILING!!!

I like the Bosch or Michelin Flexible wiper blades. They fit to the exact contour of the windshield and do an amazing job!! We have them on the Jeep and Oddyssey and won't go back to the original type...

Well I personally do not like waxing the front windshield. I found that if my blades are chattering, it's time to clay the glass. This has eliminated the chattering on our cars. Try it, it may work as well for you as it does for me.

Ive never clayed the windshield, Ill have to try that.

Ive yet to try those new Rain-X latitudes either since they would be almost $40 for the set. I use the regular rain-X blades right now and they work out great. I also use rain-x wiper fluid. I washed my uncles new Tahoe and it had those frame-less wipers, Ive never seen wipers make so much noise and skipping. That for one turned me away but Im sure chevy uses cheap parts, hehe.

Waxing a windshield works out great(Ive done it before), but the wax will wear off fairly quick.

Most blades should be replaced every 6 months. I would buy new blades. I suppose you could also try a chrome / glass polish.

these brands wipe well , silently. Some others just harden perhaps that they are not UV resistant. A few days ago i saw Valeo wipers in a parts shop they are speed rated , these ones could withstand 160 mph.

Some folks say applying RainX causes chatter.. others say it prevents it. It seems to stop the chatter when I do it, but I guess different cars/glass/wipers react differently.

For me, claying, cleaning, RainX, and occaisional touch-ups with UQD work fine.

I agree Murr. I keep a bottle of D-line glass cleaner with me at all times b/c I cannot stand a dirty windshield. If I neglect it and dont clean it often and the dirt builds up, it will skip and chatter. If I clean it regularly then they wipe just fine.

We don't really have to worry about the rainy season in San Diego, but when we do have to use them, those flexible ones are great...I haven't tried to accomplish the 160mph wind resistance, but I bet they would work.
