  • Detailing ?'s for my '02 Honda

I've been detailing my vehicles as far back as I can remember but only by hand. I recently ordered the G100 DA polisher & plan to use it on my wife's '02 Accord. Unfortunately her car has taken a beating from highway construction debris and I need to get it back into shape so here's my plan:

    > NXT wash
    > Smooth Surface Clay application
    > #2 Fine-Cut Cleaner application
    > #5 New Car Glaze polish application
    > Finish off with NXT Tech 2.0 application

    So does this sound good?

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

    Looks Good!

Just to add, #83 is always nice to have in case you need to correct more serious problems.

    What pads are you using?

I would say depending on what country you are in, #2 and #5 probably arent what you want.

Read the above links to see about #80 and #83.

Re: Detailing ?'s for my '02 Honda

Even though #2 is an older style cleaner, it still works fine. I'm guessing you've already found it, though. ...sounds like O'reilly...

I really like the cleaner / polishes - #80, 82, and 83. However, these are a little difficult to obtain in some places.

The pad used in conjunction with a cleaner depends on the cleaner and what you are trying to correct. The lighter cleaners (#80, 82, 9) can be used with a finishing pad or a polishing pad. Cleaners like #83 and #2 should be used with a polishing pad.

Pure polishes, like #3, 5, and 7, should only be used with a finishing pad. They don't have any cleaners, so it's useless to use a polishing pad.

              How bad are the defects?

LOL! I'm in the good ole' USA.

Actually I was reading one of the links you posted. Should I go with #80 & #83?

As Chris said, #2 would work, but the newer cleaner/polishes would likely be better for you.

Now #5 is a pure polish meant for high humidity environments like the tropics, so even if you want to use a pure polish after the cleaner/polish, #7 would be the best, with #81 close behind.

If given the choice of #80 or #2, I would go with #80. #80 is very easy to work with and leaves a nice finish. I should mention that #2 fits in between #80 and #83 in terms of cleaning ability.

#83 can remove deeper swirls and scratches than #80.

                      Chris,

The defects are not that bad. A few scratches here & there from the wife & kids & then chips from the highway. The car is still shiny and I have always taken good care of it, like all of my vehicles. Wish the wife was as Anal Retentive as me .

I have a dealer that carries a pretty good assortment of Meguiar's products so I'm lucky.

                      Thanks for your input,

Thanks for all the help guys. I went ahead and picked up a bottle of #80 & #83. Hopefully I'll have nice weather this weekend so I can test them out to see which one works best.

Re: Detailing ?'s for my '02 Honda

I polished my wifes '02 Firepepper Red accord last summer.
                          - Washed
                          - Clayed
                          - #80
                          - #7
                          - NXT wax

#80 took about 90% of the detects out. On some of the larger/deeper ones, I spent more time than the rest of the car and made them look pretty good.

I haven't polished a lot of vehicles, but I'm going to consider the paint a medium hardness. My Subaru paint seemed softer and I couldn't touch the paint on an Audi A3 with #80. It was incredibly hard.

Polishing really seemed to darken the color of the paint. It went from pinky to maroon. #7 added a bit more darkness.

                          Have Fun!

I waited 3 weeks for a perfect weekend to detail my Accord & yesterday was it. Here's what I did:

Step 1 - Clayed entire vehicle
Step 2 - Applied #83 using G100 DA polisher with W8006 pad on setting #5
Step 3 - Applied #80 using G100 DA polisher with W8006 pad on setting #5
Step 4 - Applied NXT Tech Wax 2.0 using Meguiar's cordless polisher &
by hand for the tight areas with W9006 pad

Overall I'm pleased with the results but there were some scratches & paint etchings I couldn't get out. What's you're advice on removing these?

                            Thanks in advance,
