  • New Way to Fly: machine polishing

Hey all, it´s been a while.
I´ve decided to order the stuff i need to machine buff my car for this spring.

I´ve read a lot of threads about what to use, and so on...
But I thought the best would be if I made a thread of my own. Hope it´s ok!

First off. What machine do I order. Remember that I am a novice at using a machine buffer. However I am experienced when it comes to car detailing in general. I will need to remove some mid to deep scratches.

What chemicals and pads do i use? Down the line I will use these products on customers cars, so I will need products for any "gig"..
I do have a lot of Meg products allready, and have made up my mind to what I think works well when it comes to waxes and other products. But what do I use for scratch removal and polishing with the new machine, when i retire my hands...?

Does the Meguiar´s instruction video describe what to do with a DA, or the Rotary buffer? Would be cool if i had the products that are in use on the vid, like speed settings and such since I want to learn thoroughly before i start on my car.

    thanks..!

Re: New Way to Fly: machine polishing

        Ok...
I would recommend getting the new Meguiars G110 when they come out, or you could get a G100 now. They are orbital, so it is nearly impossible to mess up your paint. They work well for most all types of scratches that just penetrate the clear coat and don't reach the base coat so it should get those scratches out a lot easier. For getting scratches out of your car you should try Scratch-X and for the light scratches/swirls you should try M80 and M82. If you have heavy scratching all over your paint, I would also recommend getting some M105. The pads I would buy are W8006, and maybe a wool pad to get out the heavy scratches/swirls as well as a cutting pad. If you want perfect results, you also might want to look into getting a finishing pad as well. The Meguiars video focuses on the G100, and M80 and so on. I would really get the DVD because it will help a lot. All the polishes come in bulk, so when you get to do a large number o customer cars you can save some dough there. Working with a machine is much easier than doing everything by hand, and a lot faster too. I guarantee this will be a good investment.

I think the new machine should be out by then.

With ScratchX and machine use, just make sure it says it on the front of the bottle. The older version wasn't recommended for machine use. The new one will have a yellow bubble that says "New & Improved! Use by hand or with a DA!"

Re: New Way to Fly: machine polishing

                  Hey guys.
                  Preparing for ordering new products.
Been looking at this one http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars-da-foam-pad-kit.html
Regarding pads; how do i clean them, is there a kit for that? I´d like to have enough to do 2-3 cars totally without "doing the dishes".....

Also, M80 and M82 I´ve been recommended, as well as ScratchX for scratch removal. -For wax/sealant I´ve become addicted to M21, guess I´ll go with a 64oz of the 2,0....

It´s mostly the pads and products for pads I need advice on. The rest I think i´ve got fairly covered.

Re: New Way to Fly: machine polishing

                      I´m rounding up my order...

                      Still, a few questions..

-#80 and #82, that should take care of swirls and such.
-Do i use a pure polish to brighten and make depth in the paint after?

8006 and 9006 pads.. -do i need a wool pad for scratch removal? What pad is good for using ScratchX?

Last Touch spray - can I use this for lube while claying, or should I get something else?

Hope someone can help me out here, need to get the stuff overseas so that I can begin when the spring comes!!

Yes, that was the quetion. I missed your comment about overseas. I also looked up your other posts where you mentioned Norway.

Search here for scratchx abd you will find how to tips. Same for how to clay.

Remember to always thaw the car before polishing!!!
