  • Detaling indoors vs. outdoors...

In my experience, detailing indoors was the only way to go. With som many mobile detailers out there now, it seems like you can achieve the same results from detailing outdoors.

My problem is that I have two new lifted black trucks that can't be detailed in my garage and my EZ-Up isn't tall enough to accomodate either truck.

Althought I would love to detail my own rides, I'm getting the feeling that if I detail outdoors w/o any shade or cover, I just won't get the same results and could possibly make it worse by having dust, etc. fall on my pads or paint while polishing possibly making things worse.

    Your thoughts?

A lot would depend of the weather. If it's a warm/hot sunny day, then even washing becomes a problem if you're parked in the sun. Cool paint, in the shade, would be best. As far as dust goes, I guess if it was windy you could run into problems but windy days in the garage aren't the best if the door is open too. If I'm working the the driveway (washing mostly) I'll wait until the sun passes over so I'm working mostly in the sahde.

      Like Mort said!

I have a garage but no drain so I can't wash in there. I try to wash in the morning before the sun comes over to the driveway side of the garage, otherwise it drys off too fast and you are left with water spots. I wouldn't really worry about dust unless you live next to road construction or something else extreme. Have a yard with trees? Just follow the shade around.

Another thing you could get if your only option is in the sun, would be a pop[ up canopy. That would protect your vehicle from the sun.

He stated that he could not find any pop up covers to fit his lifted trucks.
I have done a full size Dodge Ram (also black) in the evening hours when it was cooler, and with less wind with excellent results....... although the bugs were killer

Temperature & shade determine in or out for me. Certain times of the year I'll work 2 units in the garage & 1 outside. The smallest is outside & done first. Nothing beats sunlight to check the final results.
