How does this stuff happen? Was it my fault? It was sunny today so I checked out my '07 Camry from the sides and trunk and it was this effect! I know wetsanding and then removing the marks with a rotary buffer should do it, but I have no experience with a buffer. I'm kinda pissed now at this, I want a really clear reflection!

Plus, the manufacturer intentionally puts a specific thickness of topcoat on the car. Sanding will thin it out and reduce the lifespan of the finish.

Re: I Hate Orange Peel!
i notice on my car they made the bottom of the sides w/ heavy orange peeling... theres a neat line where the non orange peeled and the orange peel paint divides.... i think they did it on purpose to protect the bottom panels.... as for the trunk thing.... they probably notice that lots of ppl like to put grocerries and cardboard boxes and anything thats heavy on the trunk lid so they would spray extra thick coat there so the scratches and stuff can be repaired.....
of course these are just total guesses.... why they really do it i dont know...

Re: I Hate Orange Peel!
Don't even think about wet sanding your new Camry. All new cars and trucks have some orange peel. Some colors show it more than others Only wet sand out orange peel if it is on a repaint and you know that the painter applied a lot of clear coat.
The textured paint on lower body panels is from a special primer that is applied to help prevent rock chips in these areas. I'm sure that the trunk does not have more paint than any other part of the Camry.

Re: I Hate Orange Peel!
I can understand your frustration. Spend a ridiculous amount of money on a new car and you would expect it to be perfect. I have a 97 Tahoe that is almost perfect, with the exception of orange peel throughout. I thought it was acceptable when I got it. Then I registered here and realized how little I knew
BTW, is your Camry U.S. built? I have a tendancy to seek out the Japan built toyotas when I'm in the market, if they are even available.

if it really bothers you maybe you can call up superior shine and see what he can do about it... hahaha... doing it yourself when you have little or no experience on a car you care about is absolutely out of the question.... you would kick yourself everyday till the day you get rid of the car asking yourself why couldnt you have just live with the orange peel....
